Hi guys

I am having some problems with my 1998 WRX and I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me out.

I believe the problem is turbo related. Before the problem arose, when I drove my WRX, when I accelerated and the turbo spooled up & kick in, you would get a sharp increase in acceleration typical of an turbocharged car.

However since yesterday after work, I notice that when I accelerated and the turbo spooled up and kicked in, there is no longer any sharp acceleration like that of before. I get positive boost level readings on my boost gauge and I can hear the turbo spooling up, but the acceleration feels like a normal car without a turbo at all.

I have checked my pipes and hoses in my car and there are no leaking, cracked or split pipes or hoses. I thought it could be a problem with the manual boost controller so I removed it and changed the car back to stock. The problem with the car was still there, so I don’t think its to do with the manual boost controller.

From what I’ve observed so far, what do you guys believe the problem could be?

What else could i do to find out what the problem is? i don't wanna take my car into the shop just yet.

Is it boosting to around 13-14 psi?

It could be your ECU is running in limp mode and will only run off the actors spring tension which is only about 8psi or so.

Keep in mind his car is a auto. Gav i told u when i was installin ur boost gauge that the previous owner trashed the living sh*t out of it and that turbo wont last much longer because in the cooler piping there was alot of oil which means it is possible its on its last kick.

That would be the problem. Stock boost is around 14 psi.

Thats what i told him coz my friends that i was drivin around i had set to 17psi but i must say his car for 8psi is no 2 bad but i drove his 2 weeks ago when it was fine i dunno whats goin on now. But even than it was only runnin .5bar so i boosed it 2 .7bar for him and than he took the controller of but the previous owner was killin the car coz u can tell
