also like to add that i built the whole entire car myself hahha which is quite a feat seeing as im not very mechanically minded, bought a set of sockets and spanners and got dirty to do everything on it, full brake and suspension swap, fuel tank and lines, motor install so im quite chuffed with the results hahha :) just gotta see what she goes like, most people remember my old BPT powered KC tx3... hopefully this should be a fair bit quicker

Milhouse
23-12-2006, 07:26 PM
the old kc weighed in at about 960 with a sub woofer, full tank of fuel and me in the car on the old weigh bridge in wanneroo.. i wouldnt see this car being any heavier than that...
B5 head was lying around haha, thought i'd give it a go. :) ive still got a rebuilt b6t head i can bolt on if this doesnt work out the way i want it to.

Getting there man, make your youve got a spare box around ;)
Suprisingly, owains box will last forever as long as there are no single peggers taking place. It heats up the spider gears and its pin and they grab on the shaft and throw it out the casing.
Looks wicked owain
Milhouse
28-12-2006, 12:22 PM
hahah as for the gearbox, as long as the bellhousing is intact, the gearset is the same as the old bunky telstar's :) find a gearbox for $50, strip it apart and fit it straight into the bellhousing = new box
already got a few spares, and my BPT Turbo tx3 had the same thrashed gearbox for a year with no issues, even kept a stock clutch in it hahah :)
cheers for the comments, just gotta fabricate an oil drain and i can start it up... only downside is ive gotta find a stock injector harness from a B6T, because the microtech is tuned for standard injectors, its never going to limp around with the 550's in it.

Owain, is the microtech tuned for early or late B6t injectors.
Early have resistor packs
Late dont.

28-12-2006, 07:52 PM
lol to be honest josh i havent a clue...
the motor was from a series 2 BF 2wd turbo... maybe they're later model ones...
eiether way im going from 330's to 550's....

29-12-2006, 06:29 PM
hahahha yeah im pretty proud, plugged in the microtech, fitted the oil drain and various other lines... slight problem... no fuel gettin to the engine bay...
was caused by the fuel lines rusting up in storage, quick blast with the compressor and they're back to normal...
first turn over, and the thing fired into life !
sat there, idling happy @ 900rpm with half the vacumm hoses missing and wires everywhere... quick rev to about 3000rpm was met with a bloody loud induction noise and big flutter hahah
cant wait to drive it tomorrow, even if its just a limp to wangara and back :)

flutter can be heard from a few hundred meters away aswell hahah !

the harness which came out of the KB was an absoulte joke, looked like a monkey with a welder and some solder put the thing together hahah... scott ripped it all apart, fitted the map sensor behind the dash, tidied it all up and made it pure plug and play into the standard harness, first plug in the car started first time :) so im happy with the results... just gotta sort out a few niggling issues this weekend before the tune hopefully this week...
yeah i'll bring it past your house when shes running.

13psi tune for the meantime, until i can get a new clutch and EBC...
cheers for the comments guys hahha, yer it gets its fair share of looks and thumbs up. Also due to living behind the joondalup police training centre, we get all the undercover cars doing laps of our street, they always seem to stop and sit outside the house looking at it...

got the car back on friday, drives line a dream... no strange creaks or clunks in the driveline which is what i was hoping for :D
Power output was 120hp @ 8psi, mick @ ovaboost reckons it needs some form of boost control to make more power...
so i'll sort out an EBC and try again :)
but for now im just happy to cruise about in it.

I have the car in my shed at the moment as the guy who had it, hadnt driven it for a few months after the engine belts broke.

B6t - Crank pulley (check how much it wobbles. They like to chew out their keyways)
Turbo - The turbos on these like to let go when boosted.
General things like evidence of boost cut being disconected (white plug on firewall)
Sorry Owain, had to jump in :P
Milhouse
15-03-2007, 09:26 PM
hahah yeah it usually sits outside my house during the week..
car really needs a boost controller as ive realised tonight. so ive decided to pull the engine down again, fit a new TODA metal head gasket, re fit the turbo head and make up a new intercooler pipe. Retune with a lot of boost and see how it goes :)
then once the clutch dies, i'll remove the gearbox, fit a TODA lightened fly wheel which weighs 3.5kg from the factory 9.6kg. Get a new clutch and pressure plate fitted and see how it goes from there.
Coilovers should be coming in a few weeks from over east so i can finally lower it some more haha :)
Tre-Cool
16-03-2007, 09:33 AM
have you had any experiance with the electronic suspension that was fitted to the ghia's? the car i have has it, but it doesnt work, there fore it's sitting on its gut's dumped to the ground.
Milhouse
16-03-2007, 03:47 PM
they are like all electronic suspensions on cars man haha, they only worked back when the car first left the lot :D
best idea would be remove them and just replace with standard shocks/springs :)
if its dumped on hte ground, sounds like its been lowered tho... usually the electronic suspension doesnt dump the cars when its broken.

well after 2 days of wet weather, swearing and cut fingers. ive finally put my xtreme 6 puck super heavy duty clutch into the car.
bulk props to josh and his mate for helping me rip the car to pieces.
new clutch feels a helluva lot heavier underfoot, and isnt as hardcore as we expected it to be.
i'll post up phtos of the swap.
also note to self, when removing starter motor, make sure the wires dont move and touch eachother, plugging battery on to a shower of sparks isnt exactly good to see haha :)
p.s 17's have been removed and replaced with 175/70/14's steelies hahah, atm it has absolutley no traction.

yeah i baught it, cost me $750 with a brand new intercooler and manual boost controller.
allready swapped the wheels onto my other laser shitter so i didnt have to buy new tyres.
I reakon it just needs some new rings, but seeing as i have never stripped one of these engines down before didnt want to start stripping it down before finding someone who knows how to put it back togethor. (just incase).
I'm also not sure if all the vacaum lines and electronics are installed properly either as it had been fiddled with before i got it.
Apparently also has a button clutch in it too, so that should be good if ever get it going again.
I was thinking that if i stripped it down, i'd get the block cleaned up and bored the .20" oversize and use something like this http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=513 along with a set of ARP studs etc. I havent seen much available for these b6t engines for sale around either.

it's also got a brand new single 2.5" exhaust system & only uses 1 muffler near the back, it sounds okay at idle (when it idles) even though it's smoking like a train out the oil filler.
When i got it, it had blown the cam seal out and was pissing oil all over the engine. obviously due to blown rings putting positive pressure into the head.
if you guys are keen to chat, u can get me on msn @ david@vyssute.com

that car used to belong to my mate who helped convert my car, it begun as a bog standard KE GL 1.6 carbie, it was then converted to efi and turbo, quad lights and all the stuff you can see there :D
just rung my mate, hes rather anxious to see the car again, and reckons he'd be glad to help you with any issues you've got with it. he also happens to have albums and albums of photos of every inch of its build :)
heres a photo.

I had a ke2 4wd laser for a couple years, spent a shit load of money on it buildin up the motor then sold it 1 month after gettin it all back together and running.
Was a B6t, Aries forged pistons, acid dip and crack tested block, knife edged crank, copper head gasket, ARP head and mains studs, Hi flo turbo, R32 GTR fuel pump, full 3" exhaust smashin 20psi thru the stock cooler was good fun could throw it round corners so hard and it would just grip and slingshot outta the corner.

after pushing in the cam seal on the back cam gear tonight, i started the car up again and it seems to be running fine again now.
Still blows smoke out the rocker cover oil top up hole, also didnt like idling without the intake from the turbo, but once it was warmed up i gave it a rev and it blew the intake hose off.
gave it some more revs and the turbo sounds good, haha.
Will look around for a radiator tomorrow for it as the current one cant hold any pressure. With any luck i might have it working again soon.

Do you guys know if thats a standard indicator that is missing off the front?

installed the profec b spec 2 into the car today, cheers bobbo.
cars back to running wastegate pressure which on the ebc shows .5 bar... or about 5/6psi of pressure on the gauge.
turbo comes onto boost at 2300rpm and will hit full boost at 3100rpm which isnt bad for a 2ltr upgrade turbo on a 1.6 engine i suppose.
full service is coming this week includiing dot4 brake flush and retune for sports compact on the 6th...
all fun and games i suppose.

my money is on a burnt valve :)
Milhouse
09-08-2007, 09:46 PM
would a burnt valve cause oil to pump like crazy from anywhere it can ?
crankcase pressure/blowby will do that
would have some compression in no2 if thats all it was
could be a hole in no2 piston if oil & rough running/loss of compression happened at same time

havent updated this thread in ages, i think it needs to be cleaned up, didnt wanna start another thread tho :D
Heres some photos of the cars current status, its spent the past 2months with Benson @ BBK Auto Refinishing in preperation for Motorvation next year.
After umm'in and ahh'in with the colour choice, we settled on "Morhpeus" the latest VE HSV colour which under sun and light flips thru a few different colours.
Benson has spent an amazing amount of time making the car was perfect before any paint was applied and it definatley shows, the roof alone took him a week to prepare to remove 20years of pin dents and such.
The car still isnt finished, theres still the front bumper and various other small pieces to be painted and finshed so i'll keep you guys posted.
Heres a few photos, which arent the best seeing as i took them with my phone camera. But you get the idea
Cheers.

Get a wheel alignment and new tyres to sort the lane changing out,it will fix it up a huge amount,The U13 setup we had used to do that, scary when there is cars next to you :)
Having a FWD with decent power is always a handful on the road,I know when we wound the boost up to 18psi on the GTiR motor it was rubbish through the first 3 gears and you couldnt overtake anyone in the wet on the freeway in 5th, Have you got a LSD in it? That made life a bit easier. And what box are you using?
Well done champ, good times ahead :)

Figured i might update this very old thread hahah, the last post was from january last year.
Since then its had its paintjob and panelwork finished, new rims fitted and 90% of the interior swapped from the drab looking dark blue to a nice black/grey interior.
The only hiccups it had with the driveline was a split cv boot due to the shafts sitting 20mm too far into the passenger hub. I sent the driveshaft to allens cv's in osborne park and had it cut and sleeved 25mm shorted to accomodate the lowered ride height. Also moved and adjusted all the engine mounts so the motor no longer rubbed on the chassis of the car and vibrated. The original 5spd turbo gearbox has so far survived almost 3yrs of driving and the only downside is the poor brakes its got fitted. Am looking into fitting Mazda 626/Telstar TX5 brakes with RX7 4pot calipers ATM
Late last year i got sick of the 260fwhp and decided it needed more of a kick in the pants, so i went online and ordered a Garrett GT3071R from ATP Performance in California & 2 Greddy Type R BOV's from greenline.jp. I also measured up the front radiator location and sent a drawing down to Browns Radiators to have a custom 60mm thick alloy radiator made up. Once all the parts had arrived back I sent to the car down to Adam Spiteri @ Cronic Customs in Wangara to have the engine bay redone.
I got a custom steam pipe hi-mount manifold made up and had it HPC coated along with the rear housing of the turbocharger. The external gate got plumbed back into the dump pipe. 3" stainless steel dump pipe to a full 3" stainless system, hi flow magnaflow cat & twin magnaflow mufflers. He also fabricated the 4" intake pipe & returns for the plumb back bov's & also replaced the old mild steel intercooler pipes with 2.5" stainless steel ones. Basically the car drove in running, and left running with all the new gear fully installed.
Sent the car back to Sean @ Allstar garage for a quick power run/tidy up retune and it netted 295fwhp @ 17psi on a very sedate timing map to keep the engine internals together.
In the next fortnight or so I should have my new engine fitted. The motor had just been rebuilt and fitted into Joshg123's rally car just before he purchased it. The motor is basically a Mazda BPD GTR long block. Has a fully ported and mirror polished head with the inlet restrictor removed, Familia GTR conrods & forged pistons with gapless rings. Hoping to push it upto about 24-25psi boost this time and see how it goes.
Anyway heres a few build photos, theres a lot more but i havent recieved them from Adam yet.

That intake and dump pipe looks so hot!
Love this car. So neat and simple, with awesome power. Onl thing I could suggest would be to relocate battery to the boot? But IMO it doesn't take away form the engine bay as it is.

fark that things going to move hard!
good work dude

hahaha just wait joey, should have an extra 60-70hp atw left in it :D
thats if i stick with the 3071, might go larger again with some cams and intake plenum hahah.
Yeah the only problem with moving the battery is voltage drop, its already got some issue behind the dash, the car seems to run-on when i turn it off and the dash lights fade off. Could be fuel pump relay related.

Dunno, just bought 2 of them at the time and figured i'd fit both. One of them would be more than plenty. Each to they're own i guess haha.
Cheers for the comments.
Yeah well you saw it back when i first begun with it clint haha. Oily 1.6sohc 41kw carbie engine with a grubby engine bay and faded powdery white paint job.
Cheers Blake, as you saw it took me 3 gears to catch you from the lights haha. Tyres were still ablaze as i went past ya with bloody torque steer towards kerbs tho :(

hey, it saves your gearbox, and means that it'll scare a lot of people up top.
as for the 2 bov's, your such a ricer.

last night we rolled it into the shop and started pulling it apart, big thanks to josh and stewart for the help.
after lots of swearing and cut fingers its now sporting a fully built Mazda BPD GTR engine from the GTR familia.
Ported & Polished Head (possibly has ground cams as idle is quite lumpy)
Forged Pistons
Gapless rings
Turns out that cramming so much gear into the engine bay takes a lot of careful installation work.
Just need to repair the air temp sensor and get it back on the dyno for another power tune.
No need for photos really, as it looks exactly the same haha.

Just read the whole thread.
Top build.
Good to see some decent DIY builds happening.
Just wondering why you didn't go the awd route instead?

Should of put a stroked fe3 in instead :p
Nah, good work, looks to be a potent package :D

awd = glass gearbox. I've got a nice stock 4wd tx3 to roll around in.
hahah its suprisingly not that bad joe, just need to have a firm grip on the wheel and watch for kerbs.
Needs to have some better brakes fitted as the current ones are now completley fucked.

awd = glass gearbox.
What sort of HP can the stock box's take?
Is there any alternative gearbox's that could be used?

stock 4wd box might last a few launches, but the transfer is notorious for exploding with a bit of thrashing.
it has got brakes tj, but after a few too many hard stops on them, they have warped a rotor on the front.
haha ben, rrob drops the car off to me "yeah i killed ya speedo and you've got a cooler pipe blown off"
speedo hasnt worked since, the gear from the drive must've fallen into the gears that day and im too slack to replace it

Ive been thinking bout turboing my CRX, but think it will be to hard to drive under WOT, specialy rounds bend, how does your go??
Milhouse
08-07-2009, 08:12 AM
WOT = wheelspin
Anything else and its just a normal car to drive. no lumpy idle, very quiet.
