yer poor guy.

flywheel broke cutting some fuel line and the starter motor wiring with it, igniting the car in a matter of seconds.

No insurance? Wonder if he'll insure his next car? Luck for him he didn't crash into someone's 200K + BM or Merc!

shit. thats why u have a fire extinguisher in ur car. but doubt it would of done anything in this case. have seen a video of some guy in a heavily modded golf. smoke started coming though the vent and within minutes of him pulling over his whole car was engulfed in flames. very unlucky.

engine was only idling when it broke...now that i find really hard to believe, i mean when its idling...if something let go like that...all it will do is stall the engine....if the eng was at rev...then i would understand how it would have broken the bellhousing to cut a fuel line and short out a starter motor wire..then boom! but seriously at idle?...no sorry
anyway bad luck glad he's ok....dont worry about ya car...it can be fixed...

If u cant afford full comp u cant afford to own a car basically.

Should be compulsory.

What do they do when they write off an uninsured car? Pay off a loan for the next 5 years for something they dont have?

Not the sort of risk an intelligent (threw that in for IS300) person would take !!

If they are such a "high risk" aka lost their licence several times, maybe its time to pull your head in and drive sensibly. Either that, or have plenty of coin.

what do the 17 year olds that want a hi powered import do??

They get the shit kicked out of them if they crash into me (*or pretty much anyone) with no insurance. Then they get a call from my insurance company/solicitor and get told how much they will be paying me/my insurance company for the rest of their life (whiplash is a bitch..and emotional pain and suffering, lost time from work etc.)

have seen this argument on so many forums, and my usual reply is simply:

So you bought a skyline/wrx/evo/180 etc, and you cant afford insurance and can barely afford the payments. So then you hit/get hit by a guy in a new merc/bmw/audi. doesnt really matter that he hit you, he can afford to make so that you hit him. So now you have to pay for his car, and your car, and the loan you cant afford. Good luck with that.

Insurance is compulsory in the USA and the UK, they should make it the same here. i can only imagine what i would do if i got hit by some p-plater punk in his shitter falcadoore if he tells me he doesnt have insurance, not sure if i would laff at him and tell him he is gonna be fucked over by my insurance company, or end up with a greivous bodily harm charge.

what about 3rd party? surely that covers the other driver (if you're at fault) even if you dont get jack shit, except a whopping excess

Ive been in that situation where i was in the wrong, i paid the excess, the other guy got a payout...i was left with a busted car...didnt worry me, better than paying the 7 grand to fix the other blokes car :\

some people cant afford full comp, even with a non turbo fwd shitter.

third party property insurance is a must for all drivers. making it compulsory would be a good idea, but doing that would jack insurance costs right up because everyone would have to get it and greedy insurance companies would take advantage, im sure.

Have you seen the insurance premiums people pay in the UK? They are massive! $2-3K premiums for $5K cars.

We are lucky......

Muppet_Guy
24-07-2007, 01:39 PM
If someone is too unintelligent (as Ricey would say:D) or to poor too organise comprehensive insurance, what makes you think that someone will care about other's cars and bother paying for third party insurance? At the moment only personal third party insurance is compulsory. I reckon they should extend that to cover property as well...

How about doing it through rego. We already pay personal 3rd party there, I'm sure the government or whoever underwrites the insurance, wouldn't rip us off. I mean when has the govt ever ripped us off

Uhh, so someone is to straped to afford full comp, so by you're logic they wont even bother to get 3rd party (property)...eh?

Perhaps yes, perhaps no. I'm not strapped for cash so I wouldn't know. But given there is so many kuntz out there with zero insurance driving their bombs around that would be a fair bet.

Of course then there are exceptions to everything

That insurance is personal injury insurance, not property insurance so cars and houses etc are not covered by damage caused by your car, only the injuries caused by the accident. you claim it through the government.

remember how much i got quoted for full comprehensive for my 9k supra? 6.5k a year! i just got third party fire and theft. i had never lost my licence, had lost 1 demerit point doing exactly 70 in a 60 zone (camera).
