View Full Version : Ipod question
Is there any software or process which allows you to remove songs from your ipod without having to sync it your pc?
Syncing means it deletes the current content, and for the life of me I cant find the original cd's to whats on it at the current time ;)

Dunno what you're doin, but I just go into the 'iPod' section in iTunes which brings up the list of songs currently on the iPod, from there I just highlight them and press the delete key?
No no, I dont want to delete them, I want to copy some of the music to my p.c....
:)

Can't you just drag/drop or copy/paste from the 'iPod' section to the Music Library in iTunes?
Nah because I need to sync first
To sync, itunes will delete the current contents of the ipod.
Its their way of protecting copyright, so you cant go to a mates, copy their music, and then bring it home.
(as may of happened here)

:) see how this works!

Attach it, and it should appear in Windows Explorer as a USB drive.
Show all hidden folders.
Keep double clicking & following folders into the deep dark depths (I think they are about 4-6 folders deep)
Drag & drop as windows does.
Make sure itunes does not automatically open & synchronise when you plug the ipod in.
Only problem here is that when they are put on an ipod, the files are given 4 letter combinations, so you will have to re-name them all if you are keen. Not a problem if the ID3 tags have been done correctly, but a PITA if they haven't.

Yeah I've heard that it can be done, a mate has an iPod and some software on his comp to do it.
Just to add my worthless 2 cents in.. I hate iPods for that very reason, full of proprietary crap... I got a HDD MP3 player that just plugs in and plays like another hard drive, no hassles no worries :D
I didnt buy an Ipod, trust me it would never be my choice. Creative Zen or Iriver for the win.
But ive got one now, so may as well use it.
Well that software was a waste, doesnt even load :(

Fair enough. I've had a Cowon X5L for two years now, it's great! Creative Zen or iRiver would be the choices on my list too if I was looking for one at the moment...

but thats illegal.... u wouldn't steal a handbag.... u wouldn't steal ur mates gf... so why steal a program...
i dont think i have one legit program on my comp at home.. haha... shuold be easy enough to find a crack or serial... just got to make sure what ur downloading is it... and then u open the right thing.. and not the other program that loads a virus and porn toolbar..

To sync, itunes will delete the current contents of the ipod.
Tom, just load the songs you want on your iPod in iTunes and sync that. It wont delete the originals if they havent been imported into itunes.
If you dont want to erase any songs then remove them from itunes first.
Additionally, do a backup first to your HD for piece of mind :)

Beggers can't be choosers. I didn't know there were programs that did all this for you, so that's the way I did mine.

Find and download "COPYPOD"
Adam ill just talk to you on msn dude.
you can try yamipod and ipodagent both are free and allow dragging and dropping both ways e.g pc->ipod, ipod->pc. yamipod is good cause it doesnt need an install either just run the program.

for all those that still care the easiest way to do it is as follows, no software no fucking around....
1-show hidden folders under folder options in the control panel
2-plug in the ipod, close itunes if it opens
3-explore the ipod through explorer and open folders till you find the one with shit load of numbered/lettered folders in it
4-copy the entire folder to the desktop
5-rightclick on the folder and select properties, uncheck the 'hidden' box and apply to all subfolders when asked
6-open itunes
7-drag new folder from desktop to itunes library, ensure itunes is set to organise you library
8-smoke a bowl :D
except it doesnt actually work quite the simply.
- the albums are not stored in folders, all over the show actually.
- some songs are mp4, some mp3, some aac.
