got some rims with some thick baked/caked on brake dust. this isnt your average brake dust, so regular spray on/wipe off products arent working.

iv tried mothers and armorall wheel cleaners, and neither have been overly effective.

i also tried gumption and tar remover and neither of those worked either.

iv been told to give al-bright a go by a few people which is what ill try next.

any other suggestions?

the rims have a painted/powdercoated (not sure) finish.

nah my avatar is fairly old.

the brake dust is like thick and oxidized...it looks and has a texture a bit like rust. must be something out there that can dissolve it.

What about a high pressure cleaner.
Like the one they have at car washes. I had mud caked up all over my car and no product would get it off.

use on a small section phosphoric acid should lift the oxide without tainting the powerder coat but take it slow

cheers steve, that was the aluminum brightener yeh?

i might try a proper high pressure hose first, fairly sure powdercoating will be able to handle it.
