g'day everyone just wondering if any one on here has had any experience with supercharging a ford EB 5litre V8? I am looking into it to see if it is worth doing or not? I have been told in the past that these motors are complete slugs and it would not be worth the money as heads need to be changed and so on? Any advice would be appreciated. Smart arse comments are okay as long as I laugh!

yes the stock heads are homo! get GT40s and a new intake manifold...
best bet is to hop on www.pertheseries.com and ask... they know more about the 5L's than i do
**also it would be recommened to run low psi on a stock motor. i know the 4L's have a limit of 11psi... yet mine lasted kinda okish not on 1bar lol

Thanks I will give it a look!
It will prabably need rebuild first anyway as it is as original I will see what they say!
What type of S/C?
Vortech centrifigul (sp?) type, or screw type like an eaton?
I reckon a nice set of twins would be fun.

Got speak to a shop about it dude.. ive read about supercharged 5Ls struggling to make 300rwhp, not really worth your time for those kind of figures imo.

Eaton or whipple screw type?
Dunno i have only just started looking into it, I have had the car for 7 years and palmed it off to my wife when I bought a R33 a few years ago. It is in good nic with only 180k on the clock which I am thinking is pretty low? She wants a new car so I can start playing with it now!
Ohh Yeah thanks Tocchi for that E-series site I never new it existed! Will be very helpful i rekon!

http://www.capa.com.au/kits_ford_au_v8.htm
They have a few numbers there and steep prices but i guess u get the idea...
Kilma has a S/C XR8 maybe PM him for some info...

Thanks Locote,
I have looked at the capa gear before but haven't heard of anyone using it. I will ask Kilma what he is using.

Already found the thread.
I have a Vortech V2 unit bolted onto the side of my EF XR8. Made 297rwhp with an extremely rich tune, and 13.5 @105 quarter mile. Only mods are the charger (with water injection), 3"exhaust and a set of Pacemaker headers. Almost double the stock power.
Stock E7 heads & HO manifold are absolute poo, but this is what I have. If you can extend your budget to get a new set of heads & intake manifold, it will make a big improvement, but 400-450rwhp becomes the limit of the block & internals then depending on the tune.
I know of a few people lately who are getting almost as much power as me, and track results just as good with a good set of heads, the later model intake manifold and cam combo.
Also check out www.perthfalcons.com.au for more local people, and www.fordmods.com for a wealth of knowledge & advice that is well in excess of what is required.
Mine was fitted by MWS out in York before I bought the car. I was told it was about $7k installed.

347 stroker kit is a good option to go too mate
i also have a 5 litre ed fairmont ghia and was going to sell it and go jap but might keep it now and slowly build it up to make decent power
there very reliable motors too
cast iron head wtf :p

How much work and $$ would be needed to get these ford heads flowing like your average SR20DE...
NA power cost alot more than FI....
In an old cast iron motor like this FI would be best bang for buck...

Thanks for all the info blokes!
I am going to look into both options, camming the shit out of it is very appealing. Love to sound a cammed up 5litre!

Whats the reason behind this? Seems like alot of money for what...? You have a bike if you want power, or a 400rwhp r33 if you want it in a car, a 6L v8 for your daily, why not throw less coin at that, get similar power in a newer nicer car??
Fuk stressin a motor thats done 180ks with forced induction just to make 300rwhp and then have it pop... I would think if you want power, some head/cam packages can still get a 5L to 300rwhp and that'd sound pretty agressive while Im assuming stress the motor less than FI would, maybe a better idea??
Just my 2c, Im sure you have good reasons behind it?
Theres a couple guys on fordforums.com.au getting good results with low boost turbo setups, so maybe search that.
Interesting and relatively low cost option I read about on there is a EB using a gt35/40 turbo off a xr6t, which you can use your standard manifolds flipped upside down to face forward with a cross over pipe
I looked into power mods for my last car and what I thought to be the best option at the time was a set of AFR165cc heads (can get them from USA for pretty good price at the mo, go the aussie dollar!) new intake manifold (something along the lines of a edelbrock performer RPM, maybe ported to match) Set up your springs and roller rockers to suit cam of choice, std computer with twEECer and some slightly bigger injectors. Std bottom end should handle it... maybe get re ringed and new bearings if your not looking at a rebuild anyways.
A setup along those lines will set you back anyhere from 5 to 10k depending on exactly what you get and who does it, and should pass the 300rwhp mark (something a lot of 347s used to struggle to do) and see you into 12s depending on your driveline.
What i thought was the major advantage to this was it should be easier to insure, and if a yellow licky ever finds its way onto your car it should be a butt load easier to get it across without a blower or what have you hanging off it.

The VZ SS is a company car I will be modding that once the lease is up and it becomes mine I am hanging to supercharge that bastard!!!! The nissan makes different power to a good old V8 as you would imagine it has bugger all bottom end. I just have a soft spot for the old EB it was my first V8 and I am just looking for options the car itself is in good condition it just lacks power !

I believe BVK mechanical in Kenwick are looking at doing it to a EF/L XR8 shortly, will let you know what they get up too
Otherwise I recon your best bet would be to look through a few threads in ffau and source parts from the net and get someone like overboost to fit and tune it (depending on computer)
this dude here has whacked on a gt35/40, single on custom mount. Most places should be able to make up manifolds once theyve seen a few pics of what have you http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=84138
