View Full Version : [Track] Collie track weekend.

Ok lads, i've been involved with organising a track day at collie in the past and looking to possibly do another. So........who here would be a 75% chance of attending? Please don't say yes cause its a 'good idea'. If you honestly would head down on a friday night/saturday morning, do the track day, spend the saturday night partying with some crew ultimately a leisurely drive back on the sunday, then put your name down. If interest is genuine i'll investigate further. There will also be a requirement for helpers i.e. flag marshalls etc. Since it won't be an 'official' timed event, cams shouldn't be a requirement. Let me know ladies, and try keep the thread clean and to the point.

cheers

Jme

If permitted we can do some slalom and go to whoa courses, 'unofficially timed' of course :-)

Additionally, there may be the option of getting a few instructors to lend some advice to newbs tackling the track for the first time.

Lets tee up some numbers and i'll work out a timetable and cost.

TJ

What would it cost for example for someone to rent some timing equipment and transponders...

JME
08-04-2008, 08:25 PM
May not be an issue, BUT insurance cover and increased cost associated with official timing may not make it viable, vs some crew hand timing at a predetermined point would be easier and more than likely cheaper/easier from a public liability point of view.

TJ

I was thinking more to the point that one could hire a setup that only a person here and there uses.

I got a feeling the main players here would want timing.

Dim

i take it drifting wont be part of the day?

JME
08-04-2008, 09:02 PM
Dim I'll find out what options are available for a private hire. TJ this proposal isn't so much about 10000th of a second timing, moreso access to a track to get some seat time and have a laff. Hand timing works fine with me, if i want a truely timed event i'd look towards the sprint series or the no limits nights. But I'll look into its viability with insurance nonetheless.

Hey JME,

Any idea of when this might happen? Still waiting for my EVO to rock up (missed the last boat) I'll be in if the car arrives...

JME, I've always wanted to see the Collie track so i'd be keen to come down.

Car should be ready for Classic at the end of the month so it should be ready for when you are planning.

They run drift stuff down there all the time, I'm sure it wont be anything different.

Not sure how everyone else will enjoy it if you keep coating the track with mud if you come off though.

Happy to tag along and video/pics.

Collie is a horsepower track, much to Franz's disgust :)

My disgust is an understatement. From first left hander to coming onto the pit straight through all the twisty bits, I pull just over 100m ahead of Shane. Then the next 3 straights (only split up by the chicane and hairpin) Shane makes those 100m back. Neeed more power!

Its a bit deceving, im bassing that on the fact that at collie i can run at full throtle for about 60% of the lap where as on the wanaroo short track i'd be lucky to use full throtle for 20% of a lap. More than half of collie is just point and shoot from corner to corner where as wanaroo you spend most of the lap just balancing the car on the throtle.

JME

Wanner's long track is good on big hp cars, collie definitely shows up well for good power to weight, with power being a big factor :D

i've done 2 private "test and tune" days at collie. great day out, test and tune ment we didn't have to have marshells or ambo on site, and could only run at 90% speed (not enforced), test and tune was heaps cheaper then a full timed event.

there was one guy from collie supervising the whole day. rules were 3 cars on the track at any one time, allowed 1 warm up lap, 3 hot laps and a cool down lap (any more and factory spec falcon brakes would be useless anyway). after a while he got bored and went off to do paper work and left us supervise ourselves.

guy said at the start if we behaved and didn't go off to much, no burnouts etc we could time sessions in the arvo, which we did.

drifting wasn't allowed cos there was no marshells or ambo.
