saw your runs last night, impressive you ran the 11.3 when you can hear how lazy your 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th shifts were. probably would have cracked a 10 if you smashed each gear. Well at least you still have your box in one piece huh :)
does it fall off boost when you shift like that? turbo is large.
Yea it comes off boost slightly, but nothing drastic. I don't know if there was a 10 in it last night, but with some setup adjustments i'm fairly confident it would do it.
Tom, Clint's 9.51 @ 154 was pretty bombed! Mitch got footage on the Go-Pro.
I also came third in the reaction time challenge last night with a .008. Scored $50 which i was happy with as it's a completely different setup to my calais & much different to get off the line being manual v auto.

I always work wednesday nights, have been itching to go for a 1/4 mile run, anyways I finally made it down for the first time in my whole life, Soo much fun to open it up. But it was HOT! 41.6 degree track temp!!! I doubt this helped...
Out of 6 runs best time was 12.791. Best top speed was about 118mph. Best 60' was a terrible 2.382. It seems it is actually a lot harder than it looks to get off the line quickly.
I was speaking to some of the more experienced drivers down there with faster (and louder) cars, and when they saw my quickest top speed of the night they all seemed to agree it translated as an 11 sec capable car, however they said I really need to work on my 60' time as it should be at least 1.8 sec. How on earth this is possible with street tyres I don't know? I didn't adjust suspension or tyre pressure or basically anything either, just showed up and drove it.

116mph is a high 11 or low 12 in a manual whale.
1.8 sixty footer wont happen on street tyres in a manual boosted rwd car on WAW. Maybe on a prepped track, but even then i'm not so sure. You need drag radials if you want to get the most out of it.
41 degree track temp is good. The conditions last night were actually better than they've been for the last 6 weeks or so.

Thanks for your input mate. Ha ha... 'manual whale'... Believe it or not, the manual RZ supra stock is 1490kg on paper, with really basic weight reduction mods and a single turbo setup it's very easy to get it down to less than 1450kg.
Re: the tyres, yes thats what some others were saying, my tyres were shit, hence my shithouse 60' time, and drag radials would bring the sixty footer down and bring my overall time down into the 11's. I can't justify buying a set of drag radials for one nights use though...
I was always under the impression that turbo cars don't do as well in hot conditions? However I guess the heat is helpful with keeping the tyres warm no? I normally loose traction in 2nd on the street however last night I could apply full throttle and it hooked on the track.
By Feb its getting water/meth injection, and a larger T4 .81 housing (current is a tiny .63 T3) and possibly a set of 264 cams, gonna turn up the boost, should make a bit power and will see how it goes on the 1/4 mile then....

biggest problem turbo cars have is leaving the line on boost.
my dads drag car has a 6.7lt motor powering a t51r turbo. if he just stomps the throttle off the line he doesnt even make wastegate pressure (8psi) till 5200rpm and runs 1.8~1.9 -60's.
put a 2 step unit on it, it cuts timing and holds the revs at 2800rpm. leaves the line on 4psi and does 1.6 - 60's.

Track temp is not ambient temp, it's the temperature of the track surface. 41degrees is good as it's not too hot & not too cold, meaning the track isn't greasey. Check your ambient temp & relative humidity figures, they're great in comparison to the past 6 weeks.
10.65@139
Stout!
1.9 sixty footer is aids though, needs a converter + a 20 shot of nitrous on a switch to just use on line for building boost. Will eliminate the heat issue with the tranny from sitting there so long & bring your time waaay down :D

It still managed to pull some good wheelies but I could only manage 11.0s so for the finial run thought I may as well chuck some gas into it , yes that did wake it up huge wheelie of the line and it went 10.2 @ 131mph and the best part is none of the officials sore it so I didn't get kicked out.

Went down for another run last night since the latest tune. Was quite busy, stayed from 6.40 until 10pm and only got 3 runs.
Was aiming for 123mph trap speed which was suposedly what a 517whp dynojet power figure is capable of in a supra.
Best I got was 12.6 @ 121.5mph with the usual useless 2.3ish 60' time.
So 1.5mph off but meh... Whatever, it was good fun, and an improvement from before, the best I ran in Jan was a 12.7 at 116.5mph.

1.5mph could easily be made or lost by gear changes so I wouldn't stress too much about that.
You would be more worried that if you did launch a bit better you would probably loose another 3-4mph :(

What et are you comparing to that did the 123mph trap speed? As Simon said, the quicker your sixty foot (in turn the quicker your et), the slower your trap speed will be. Need to compare apples with apples.
Still decent improvement over last time though, picking up 5mph.
Madhav
08-11-2012, 09:43 AM
11.7 ET @ 123mph was what it said. See here: http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/dragracing.htm
I'm thinking if the trap speed goes down when the ET gets better, then that above ET and trap speed would be impossible with my setup? Although there must be so many factors to take into consideration I guess also
But tbh my main purpose of going down there was firstly to get a comparative time/trap speed to my last run in Jan, and also to see whether the dynojet figure I got recently matches the trap speed which it kinda does.

Not impossible at all, unless you drove the car in EXACTLY the same way the other guy did using the EXACT same conditions as on the night he raced.
My suggestion would be to stop comparing to other cars on the net, make adjustments to the car & compare with your own previous results. This is the best measure of performance gains/losses as you take a lot of the variables out of the equation.
Ah Supras, have 700rwhp it's still going to run a 12.

Sounds good to me, I think I will do just this...
Ah Supras, have 700rwhp running street tyres and it's still going to run a 12.
Fixed :) Without 4wd or decent tyres/suspension setup I'd imagine it would be the same for most street cars?

But it's the Supra's fault for having a sticky accellerator pedal, not the driver's fault for having a heavy foot & no control over throttle position at any time... It's either all or nothing!! Sheesh

1.9 - 2.0 on street tyres.
Throttle control & tyre pressures will help if you insist on being tight & running street tyres. Or, just buy/borrow/steal a set of drag radials.

1.9 - 2.0 on street tyres.
Throttle control & tyre pressures will help if you insist on being tight & running street tyres. Or, just buy/borrow/steal a set of drag radials.
I used brand new Toyo Teo 225x50x16 with 8psi cold , best ever 60ft was 1.79

I have done a 1.88 60 foot on street tyres. 12.20@116 IIRC
federal 595 rs 255/40 I think
My advice is to practice and go a few weeks in a row. You cant go once a season and expect to get the best times out of your car.

Yes stock shaft that most likely done 400K, don`t here of many issues with stock subaru shafts tho....only thing left in the driveline I have not broken !! I`m thinking it may of had a little dent where it colapsed.
TS loop is installed to andra specs...with-in 50mm of the uni so it did f-all to catch the major part of tube flopping around !!!
What to do next , one piece beefy shaft (would be a shit fit and make the exhaust system move over and down....), re-make 2 piece stronger ?, just slap another stock one in thats 20 years old and see how long it lasts !?

thats clever thinking. because everyone tries to run 9's in a liberty wagon.
i`d stick to 2 piece. take that to final drive and get Phil to put a thicker wall tube on it. you`ll just need the measurements.
Thinking about taking the soarer down next wednesday if everything goes to plan, is hitting the 180 speed limiter a likely thing to happen?

Justin, install a second loop for peace of mind. I had one on the rear section of my shaft when it let go thankfully, otherwise i would've had no floorpan or fuel tank left.
As Ross said, speak with Phill about modifying the current shaft with heavier tube.

Took the VE down at the spur of the moment. Turned out to be a good decision. Fuck all people = bulk runs.
1st run = 11.227 @ 129mph with water/meth assist
2nd run = 11.091 @ 130.24mph no water/meth to check petrol fueling as it in the 10's on meth, low 11's without.
3rd run = 10.689 @ 132.35mph no water/meth 11.5afr
4th run = 10.961 @ 132mph no water/meth- wheelspin 2nd into 3rd.
next few runs got progressively worse wheelspin as i tried to put more power in the tune.
All in all, im fucking stoked!

hard to say, as i have never done a back to back run with the same tune with both fuels. as it was 2 weeks ago that i fuelled up, the ethanol content has only changed by about 1% on my guage after 18 days.
at the moment i've pretty much stuck for chasing any more hp out of it as my fuel pumps can't supply enough fuel. allready at 96% dutycycle in the top end as pressure drops off significantly in the rails. (im guessing same thing was happening when i had the id1000's & e85 in it previously before racewars)

Whilst certainly not the quickest car around it is a bit of a personal achievement for me and has been a goal for a couple years to finally run the lowest ET for a 1J JZX100 in OZ :(
Previous best was some dude over east 11.47...running E85! (I'm only running P100 :))..so yeah, lucky to just clip past his best. Happy to bring it back to WA!

Wanted to do either 2 things last night, run atleast a 9.999 or 140mph... I failed at both...
Nearly did the 9.99x on the last run but hit the limiter ever so lightly on the 3-4 shift.
So, Another time then, for now a 10.009 will do for my fat ass in the overweight VE. Also have suspicions stability control is doing something on the launches as it's cutting my throttle.

Edit: for gonzo to state this online, makes me go "fuck, it probably will do that" lol
FYI : The car went 1.23 to 60' at low boost on the launch, no 2 step. Changing the (Diff) gears will slow the 60' times but increasing the launch RPM, Boost or just using the 2 step will bring them right back down to the 1.2's. The important part is that the car / tyres / suspension showed that it is capable of running low 1.2's to 60'. Make no mistake, the Tochi Capri will be hauling the mail! If you want to bench race this Stock Un-Opened 4L Ford 6, your time card better start with an 8 cause you can put money on it Tochi's time card will"

Few things:
1. Either your clutch is slipping, or you're not getting off it fast enough between gears. Considering it blew later I'm assuming it was on it's way out all night.
2. It takes a long time to get through 2nd gear. Your car is a LONG way down on power. A 35R should be making ~450whp even on a relatively safe tune on a stock 26. Yours is making ~300whp at most.
3. The launch isn't bad at all. 1.78 60' times are about spot on for low profile street tyres. Traction isn't your issue, HP is.

Watching the Tacho, 3rd and 4th seems to slip just at the start, unless when he looked over at the gears he hesitated with throttle, but yeah takes a while through gears.
Def down on power though. The launch was great, if it had the power to back it up, would be a very low 12 pass, maybe quicker.

Literally just got it retuned at HD as recommended by most people. Not interested in bagging workshops, but it made 40 less HP than I bought it with. Leaves me with 3 options:
-Go back to tuner and get it ramped up (if he is able to).
-Look for different ecu
-Go back to haltech tuner workshop it was originally tuned on when it reopens and see what they can do.
I fucking hate swapping around with workshops as it just feels 'disloyal' to me.
Dean, when new clutch goes in, I'll let you have a few runs to see what the problem is.

replace clutch
run it again at drags
if you aren’t happy with the times you run – have it run up on another dyno for verification

First time down there last night. Managed a disappointing 12.658 @102.15mph (164.39kmh), 1.788 60' with much improvement to be had.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT9VZ-Ph2BY
Oh, blew the clutch too, then pulled a 14 with that and still beat a supercharged 86 by half a second lol
Launch was good but you pulled 2nd way too early and 35R came off boost...
Between 2nd and 3rd it appears you got back on the loud pedal before you had disengaged the clutch (that will kill the clutch or 3rd fairly fast) and then when you changed to 4th the clutch took a while to grip up, most likely because it was still hot from 2nd to 3rd change.
What kind of clutch did you have? I wouldn't bother with anything less than a twin, the Nismo twins are very nice or if you want a bit cheaper OS Giken are hard to go past out of Japan

NO need to feel disloyal, if you're not happy with the tune, take it elsewhere, you're paying for a service, you have to be happy with it.
What power is it making? Got dyno sheet?

I don't know what tune setting you were running on, but my 33 when I first got it had 416whp and ran 11.8 @ 118mph.
There's no way you have 400whp if you're running ~102mph.

Yeah there's no way that thing is putting out 400hp, even when it was hooking up it didn't accelerate hard enough, the clutch didn't slip that hard either.
I'd get the clutch sorted and go see someone else for a tune.

439 rwhp at 20 psi
401 rwhp at 17 psi ..
thats where ya 30 hp is gone ..
ps my car made 400 odd rwhp on our shitty low reading dyno .. and goes 125mph .. so either ours is low .. or urs is high . .
would of thought 400 rwhp would go at least 110-115mph easy ..
my cresta 280rwhp went 12.5 at 110mph too
something doesnt sound quite right with ya setup .. althou the numbers are about right for a 35r on 20psi

When I got it retuned it came up that I was planning to set it up for rallysprint etc, which is why it may have been tuned like that. Fuck knows, but if its making this big of a difference, I'll be retuning it again. I'm assuming that the 7500 was set to save oil starvation at over 8000 as that was a concern for me gathering what everybody says about 26s.

First 2 passes the tyre pressure was too high and was getting mid 2's 60ft and low MPH, wasted time. 3rd run lowered pressure and made a world of difference. 4th I just fucked up the skid.
MPH achieved for what I wanted...but the ideal 60ft just couldn't be achieved again.
1.9 60ft was the "best" of the night, 0.4 or so more than what I'd like, taking into consideration getting off throttle then back on...had "PWR" off too, so it hit limiter in that run too (as well as shifting sooner).
I reckon 128mph can be done or a little higher if I'm lucky.
Either way, it's a PB (by only 0.06 sec LOL) despite my previous mph being 118mph
Shall make sure I got back after a drag event (or test n tune) - I didn't feel that great with the grip off the mark, nothing has changed on the car since I last went and did 1.5 60ft, not even stalling up as high as I'd like either
