I'm driving an RB20DET and when I accelerate the turbo spools up really quickly but the air's obviously going somewhere other then where it should be because the car doesn't go anywhere.

Any ideas? Is the turbo simply fucked?

check that all your lines and hoses are connected properly

Check that your exhaust manifold hasn't got any cracks. Usually if it has, the car will idle higher than normal.

going nowhere as in doesnt drive or drives like a straight 6? if this is the case do as everyone else has suggested and also look at the actuator. follow the bit of metal from this to the back of the turbo where is should be held down by a small ring. if not replace the ring.
