hey guys iv got a vg30det in my vk with a vg box and a vl turbo diff. its happened to me twice where iv dumped 2nd then bang there goes my tailshaft, the 1st time it happend i busted the cv and bent the tail shaft. so the mechanic got a 2nd tailshaft and put it in seemd all good until a week later where i went to smash 2nd then bang again the tailshaft but this time it was the center bearing.
i wouldnt have a clue wat is going on i cant see why this happening i dnt know know if it cause its not balanced properly, my mechanic recommends getting a 1peace made up but i dont know, can any1 help me out cheers guys.

3 options

1) drop 3rd... it's better on the driveline
2) listen to mechanic and spend the $$$ to get a suitable HP rated diff to suit
3) get a new mechanic

but there's a chance you wont be able to view this... cos you might have a temp ban lol

lucky you havent killed a box yet! i destroyed one just from the vibrations of a centre bearing letting go.

I used truck line to make my 1 peice shaft, brendan explained to me that a well setup 2 peice can be just as strong if not stronger than a single peice shaft becuase the load is broken up into two peices, where as a 1 peice the torque load is alot more because of the extra length so you will need to make the shaft alot bigger to cope.

When I was i Balcatta our engineering shop did tailshaft wrk and occasionally I would go to Veem and Hardy spiecer and had a chance to chat with guys on the machines i was told more than once to keep the two peice in my silvia as they could be built just as strong. You can run big tube/yokes/ears/unis on a single or two peice shaft it just comes down to whether or not you can get a center bearing strong enough to suit.

i also support the dropping of second. do it daily.

just go and see final drive they are the beast at what they do

Phil's vl runs a 2 piece sharft that he loves and recomends highly, they have a huge cv joint and a decent centre bearing.

Only people to trust when it comes to my car.

I had my vl shaft done by Phil at final drive, built me a upgrade shaft(and shortened for the r154)using uni's out of a later model commodore as they are larger.

Did your mechanic just replace your shaft with another secondhandy??

have u got ur pinion angle on teh diff right? so it lines up with box and shaft, if the pinion angle is out it will cause smashed uni's, lots of them, had this prob on the cressida
