yeh as you said: headgasket, blown turbo
id check first

is the smoke oily in smell?
if so, its not headgasket

a simple compression test will tell you if the head is blown.
check the oil cap for yukky shit, and also check the radiator coolant

I'd put money on turbos. The shitty CT12a's let go all the time, seals etc.

Wouldn't be surprised if you blow a turbo shortly and find yourself without boost.

yeh I thought it was the turbos to tho if it was oil burning from leaky seals the oil would have a bit of blue in it yes , also the water and oil cap were clean but the oil looked pretty good on the dip stick so Im guessing sum dodge stuff ie Clean up job cuz the smoke is so white it does have sum what of an oil smell "I got a ute that leaks oil onto the zorst and that stinks like sh*t but yeh what do you guys recon now ?

i think saying its the turbo's is a safer bet than the cats winning the flag again this year.
the valve stem seals are a bit iffy on these engines too but they would only smoke on startup. if your concerned about your rings, get a compression tester and run a test. a decent one is only around $60 and are a good tool to keep in the shed, particularly when buying a new car

Turbos, or PCV valve issues.

My motor smoked hard, everyone said turbos, it ended up being the PCV valve.

95% chance it's the turbos. Sounds like the same thing that happened to my soarer. No worries, can be fixed cheaply if you can replace it yourself. It's a cnut of a job, mainly due to stuck bolts... bit of swearing and agro, and plenty of WD40 should get your through it alright. You can find second hand CT12A turbos for like $300 a pair. Of course, it'll probably start smoking in a year or two as well. Best to get one off a later model 1J...

Or you can rebuild your current ones with steel wheels etc, costs about 3-4K. Or chuck on a big single :D
