Hey guys, i drive a sr20det converted pintara, but the gearbox is pretty much same same as a GTiR sharing the same bell housing.

I noticed this morning that it was hard to put the car in to 1st on occasion and also when changing into 3rd it was tough and on occasion it crunched trying to get it into gear (while moving). apart from that the gearbox operates n sounds fine all forward n reverse gears work and there isnt a whine or any such from the box. ive got a 4 puck xtreme clutch in at the moment.

What causes this and is it best to go and get it checked out by a workshop asap?

Cheers

How olds the clutch?

Cable or hydraulic?

Sounds like clutch not disengaging properly? Or maybe gearbox oil too thick if its been changed recently?

its hydraulic. the clutch id say about 1 year old..maybe even 1.5 years. i bought the car 4-5months ago so not sure about service history really...

any way of trouble shooting gearbox oil thickness? or best just to change it all and see if it fixes it.

I thought also it could be the synchros?

i miss read, sorry. gearbox oil hasnt been changed in the last 5months...atleast! so probably not a thickness issue based on that.

i bet synchros

my gtir crunched 3rd & 5th, then lost 3rd completely. box rebuild, 3rd gear was still a prick to get in so i sold it. clutch was fine

Try bleeding the clutch first

Synchros dont make it hard to select 1st gear but could be the cause for crunching 3rd

Pull rubber boot back on slave cylinder, you find oil, you replace slave cylinder.

If no oil, clamp rubber line to slave and push on clutch pedal, if clutch pedal sinks, bleed system. If still sinking after this, replace master cyl (with a new one ffs)

Synchro's wont just go, they will get worse over time starting with the most common gear

so after a fun drive to work i can pretty much narrow it down to the clutch not enganging properly. it takes a couple of goes to get it into first at the traffic lights and at one put even when the gear was in it seemed like the clutch was partially out as it was jerking even though it was to the floor.

so i assume this would be air in the hydraulic line and it would be best to bleed it or could it be some other problem with the clutch/gearbox?

thanks.

do what josh said. my bet is master cylinder.

top up and bleed system as it could be just that. if not master or slave cyl needs replacement

Thanks guys, after driving home from work without a clutch, popped head under car. the Slave cylinder was pissing oil down the gearbox. Time for new slave cylinder. Thanks for your help guys!

ive been told by the guys on the "pintara trx" website that the ones from my gearbox combo are hard to come by. do u think i should take it off and go and see guys like conventrys or supercheap and see if they can match it or get a part number?

redline oil in box, bet it will fix all issues

isn't the slave cylinder n hydraulic line different to the gearbox oil? (my mechanical knowledge is very limited :( )

Um?

Take your slave off, take it to veales with your cars details. Slaves are pretty universal, manufacturers will make a slave to cover 5 vehicles. So if they dont list anything for YOUR car, try a varient like a normal pintara or a pulsar or something.

Supercheap is good for nothing, covs are full of bookreaders.

hahaha no amount of gear oil will fix a fuxord slave or master cylinder
