View Full Version : Rod Henderson (Liberal) and where he stands on hooning..
Election coming up. A big deciding factor for who i'm gonna vote for is obviously where they stand on 'Hoon' laws.
Got home just then and there was a car parked out front of my house with 'Vote Liberal' on the back of it. I went to the front door found a pamflet that had been handed out. It contained some decent points on dealing with local issues.
- Overpass Reid Hwy and Alexander Drive.
- Four lanes on Reid all the way.
- Lower taxes for small businesses etc.
Nothing on hoon laws though.
So I walked down the road looking for the person who handed it out to question them. It was Rod Henderson himself. I introduced and got straight to the point and asked him where he stood on Hoon laws.
He said he used to have a 351 gt falcon back in the day(apparently). He also said my FC was a nice looking car (over the top flattery, obviously trying to win my vote haha). I told him the laws are rubbish. For example; if i get picked up for speeding. I'd immediately be classed as a hoon because of my age(22), gender and type of car driven. And face possible car impoundment for 48hours on first offense? If my mum gets picked up in her Verada. She'd be fined and sent on her way. Quite discriminatory..
Anyways. He actually agreed and said that you should be dealt with accordingly with the law you have broken, with no discrimination of your car, age etc etc. So i though that was interesting.
He also mentioned his thoughts of the new laws banning P-platers driving v8's and supercharged cars. He said basically it won't do shit coz you can still reach 100km/h in a bunky and smash into a tree... Wow i thought. Common sense...
And finally he mentioned driver training, and there should be more of it. And that kids that wanna go fast should join up to Barbagello, or go to the plex.
I was pretty impressed to be honest. Seems to be on a closer level to our train of thought than allot of other old people.. Then again, he is a politician so he was prob lying.
Now i just need to find out where labor stands... any thoughts?

Dennis Jensen (Federal Liberal member for Tangey) is another one vocally opposed to the Hoon Laws.
So much so, it almost got him kicked out.
There are some honest politicians out there who actually just want to do some good (funnily enough, the examples I can give are all Liberal), they just need our support.

If said pollie is actually serious about this shit, good on him. (And the best of luck to him as well. He would possibly have my vote)
BUT, when it comes down to it, we (car enthusiasts of in all forms) are hoons, WE are just as bad as the creeps that rape and pilage in the eyes of JOE PUBLIC... As long as we continue to modify our cars in any way we will always be seen as "hoons" that are up to no good.
YES there are "enthusiasts" out there that tarnish our names, there are "enthusiasts" that continue to do stupid things, and there are "entusiasts" that will do the right thing and keep it on the track (in which ever form).... BUT until a day comes that we can distance ourselves completely from the retarded "enthusiasts" we will always be a target, no matter what said pollie says.
[I am in no way saying that I am an angel of the roads (and I never will pretend to say so) but there is a time and a place for everything (as everyone knows), it's just unfortunate that JOE PUBLIC doesn't seem to realise that there is a difference between those of us that try and do the right thing, and those that dont.]
So basically what I am saying is... EVEN IF WE MODIFY OUR CARS BY THE BOOK (which is another subject completely and please dont get me started on that shit) AND OBEY ALL THE ROAD RULES ETC, WE WILL ALWAYS BE THE TARGETS. WE WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE HEADLINES, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT JOE PUBLIC WANTS.....

no its not, if you get done speeding 20kays over you cant be hoon lawed, its only for speeding more than 45km over the posted limit or for doing other 'offenses' as well, that you will be hoon lawed for.
look at rhonda wylie, she's 60 yrs old or so & got hoon lawed/car impounded, driving an aston martin.
if your mum get done for speeding 45kays or over or doing the other offences under the hoon law she would/should get done for it just the same.

Haha dude you obviously havent experienced many cops who will have no problem "creating evidence" if they want to get you for something.
Its as simple as the cops saying he saw you do a burnout, even if you didnt, who the fck will believe you? Thats the problem with the hoon law, its guilty until proven innocent and the cops have far too much power, it totally circumvents the whole establishment of our laws, thats why it is such an offensive one.

This hits the nail on the head. The whole "Dob In a Hoon" thing too; fucken create a story and send to the police; no evidence needed to convict. What a joke.

Hoon car!:) Wonder what would have happened if it were a Honda Jazz or something.
That is true, you're right about the 45km over. But just making a point about police bigotry towards younger people driving sports cars.
Today at work, one of the old lady's in the kitchen was saying how 'they kill people on the roads' and 'they should bring in car crushing here', referring to hoons and certain reports on Today Tonight and etc programs. It wasn't really apparent to me until now, of how much power and manipulation they (Today Tonight) have over old people. They truly believe hoons are actually out to commit murder... It's like hoons are the new serial rapists/murderers of our community or something.

Labor intend to keep driving forward with their tougher and tougher hoon laws.
Do you really think that if the Lib's win (i dont think they will though) they will scrap all hoon laws and make the road's a free for all? I dont think so... The majority of the community (and those who whinge loudly every 5 minutes about everything) support hoon laws and think they work brilliantly.
Of course its a shitty bandaid solution for road safety but if it gets the public onside, i have no doubt they will jump on the hoon bandwagon and find their own ways to rape us harder. Their politicians, its what they do!

oh get off it!
the point is - first impressions COUNT, they'll treat you far worse for whatever you drive, thats life - some people are pingpingpingpings.
my roommate got picked up going well over 45km in his corolla.... did he get done for hooning?
No. they still fined him.. and lowered the km's he was doing. wow
if he was driving something else, no chance in hell..
in the end a speeding car SHOULD be treated as just that...a speeding car ;)
we shouldn't have to watch/read articles 24/7 about some moron who was speeding and crashed in his "highly modified turbocharged nissan". like most people aren't speeding.....they're just lucky,
and besides, if they made a report about EVERY accident that occured... "hoons" wouldn't look that bad at all imo.
Election coming up. A big deciding factor for who i'm gonna vote for is obviously where they stand on 'Hoon' laws.

yeah, Australia is that retarded that they find 'the stand on hoon laws a significant factor'
what a load of arse.
labors stand on cars...lol

oh so people driving non performance cars are immune from getting hoon lawed, good luck with that.

yeah yur right ive had no experience of cops 'creating evidence', every time ive been done for something they havent needed to.
'offensive' lol, its not just the hoon law that they are the judge, jury & executioner, its all traffic infringment laws, its the system we have so get used to it :dunno:

The guys at work here were up in arms about it also, Until I mentioned that they were more likely to have a fatal accident than a young guy in a performance car, As soon as you start mentioning the real statistics, they're attitudes change pretty quick. But yeah, People are pretty easily influenced by the media on subjects they don't know alot about

When a party is in support of something, I don't think that an individual members views are going to make a lot of impact. The 'hoon' legislation was passed quickly through the Parliament and at the end of the day only non-contentious bills do that, so it was agreed to by both major parties. I think at this stage it is irrelevant which sides of the Parliament the politicians are on, similar legislation would be going through. If the Liberals gain power then they will be driven by the opposition, claiming they aren't doing enough. If Labour retain power the Liberals are going to badger them to do more. Its the way the process goes.
Really now there isn't a large amount of difference between the two major parties, so maybe there is an independent candidate running for your seat, who might better present your views?
I'm not inclined to be voting Liberal simply because they cannot agree on anything for more than 6 months, so how are they going to run the state. Plus they're pretty useless during question time. Se what happens in 2 weeks.

This man has a point. Its a bit retarded when they are like oh noez must ban dope smoking eerg scourge of the earth eerg must register every coke bottle you buy and must return it without holes and hoses in it but oh here you go have a packet of spark plugs to smoke your ice through.

Whilst I DO agree about the stereotyping, sometimes you DO get lucky... I got pulled in my S15 (lowered, no rear seats, driver bucket seat, FMIC, exhaust) at 47 over. Was followed for some time before another car was called in ahead of where we were and waited to get a radar on me, so in the end 2 highway patrol cars and 4 officers to bring me down.
I left the spot some 15 minutes later with my car, a yellow sticker (bald tyres which were under the limit) and without 7 points and $1k. They dropped the speed to 44 from 48 over.
So there is a chance in hell, you just gotta be real lucky.
Bring on September 2010.
As a side note, they were following me down tonkin where I was 120-125. I got pinned between lights where it drops from 100 to 80kph at 11pm at night. As far as I care it wasn't dangerous, but the law is the law.
