if there the little things you put on a die grinder with an attachment ... then i see Rrob use them all the time to clean old gasket gunk off heads

I dont like them, in some cases can give an uneven deck height which leads to consistent head gasket blowouts.

i much prefer a good solvent with some fine wet and dry, might take a bit longer but hey, saves taking the head off.

Sometimes they work mint, sometimes they are shit. depends on block.

if its the one im thinking of they are fine
(black plastic, about 120mm diameter, 10mm thick with open mesh/fibre, used on air grinders, not die grinders)

if you mean flap wheels that are used on die grinders/drills - be very carefull, they will remove metal

ive just got a little bit of old gasket stuck on my block..... I don't want to disassemble it to clean it up, just want to bang a new gasket in. The old one didnt blow, just leaked coolant because head cracked around a botched patch up job I was unaware of.....

i used razor blades and thinners to get rid of chuncks/gunk, then some 1800 grit wet and dry lightly, then got some metal polish to get surface to mirror finish.

Then how should I go about making sure anything that's fallen into the bores/coolant channels is flushed out?

Kero + garden sprayer + compressed air?

stuff rags down the bores & do your best not to let shit get in the oil/water passages.
dont need a polished finish on the block deck, just needs to be perfectly clean.

i wouldnt use any wet/dry etc as those particles that come off are highly abrasive.
if your worried about shit getting down the passages cover them up with tape as you are cleaning the other areas.

Ok, thanks guys... looks like ill just use more elbow grease and solvents!

Then vacuum everything I can and then go the reverse and use some compressed air.

i filled the bores with rags, then washed it all with thinners afterwards.... that said this was the motor in my bunky.... not a big $$ build

this is my bunky! e30 shitter lol

Im assuming ill need to wash it out anyway, as I had choc milk oil. Then just put some oil back on the cyl walls and turn the motor over by hand?

Put CRC or similar down there, not oil. Something that will burn away without leaving such a residue

Just f*ckin do it Marc. The longer you take to get it back together, the longer it will be before I can see big skids.
