Datsun 120Y 4 Speed gearbox

oh nah its the same gearbox i had since i brought it ... was broken back then i just been limping around for months with no third gear but the other day i got angry with it and smashed 2nd and 3rd :(

thing is its a 1200 ute ... but a 1200 gearbox doesnt fit ... i think i have a 120Y motor and clutch in there ... different to the 1200 gearbox and clutch ... different sized dust cover bolts ... clutch cable hole is larger on the 120Y box ... and for some reason a 1200 box doesnt line up with my tailshaft ... there are also a few differences in the boxes ... i tried taking a good gearset out of a 1200 box i broght and fitting it to the 120Y belhousing ... no good :(

ive got a datto 1000 rusting away down near the shed with a 4 speed in it. no idea what sort of condition the gearbox is in however, and im not even sure if they are the same box. the car was used as a bush hack but i havent driven it in years.

Ben, I think the 1000 gearbox will fit, but you'll have similar problems to getting an original 1200 box to fit...I.e. they have the same slight differences.

main prob was the clutch cable hole ... but i gues we can always die grind it out to fit if its smaller ... but will gear box mounts be in the same place ? and will my tail shaft line up with this one ?

You are correct, 120Y and 1200 engines are slightly different.

both A12's but yeah..

thought so ... only tiny differences ... but enough to not make things fit :(
