Unfortunately as cool as the antisub watch is, i dont think its worth much. One link said it sold for $50 or so, maybe worth a few hundred to a collector? Need to remember every ship in the navy would have have a whole bunch of these timers on board. There would be thousands of them out there still.
Dont know anything about the vivax sorry. It isn't a brand i have heard before. Its not unheard of in the past for stores and other companies having watches made for them by swiss watch companies and then rebranding the dial with their name on it. Might be that Vivax was a deparment store or something liek that and it has a generic swiss manual wind movement and case.
Might not be worth much $$ wise but would be a cool thing to give your kids in the future.

Dont know if its what your after but the only really interesting digital watch i have come across is a Cat watch. On the www.catwatches.com website. Go to collection, urban steel on the left, then northcape digit. Pity it has the gay little dozer on it though lol From what I have tried to gather they are distributed through a swiss watch company but the items themselves are made in china or some part of asia :P

I think best bang for buck mechanical watches are seikos, such as the Orange monster crabman just bought. For under $200 you cant do much better.
If the style is not to your liking search ebay for seiko auto, load more styles available with the same or similar movement. Stay away from the kinetic ones if you want a try "mechanical" watch.
If you are willing to buy second hand you can get a bunch of newish and vintage Swiss made mechanical watches for under $500.

The omega TC1's ive seen sold go for around $1K for stainless ones, the 18k ones would sell for significantly more ( due to gold price and rarity i'd assume 6-10k?)
yep & personally i would prefer a s/s one over that longines watch.

i got mine from ebay seller in hongkong, but he has excellent feedback, like 99% from thousands and thousands of sales
used him for my missus' new watch and will use him for my next also, linked him on the last page.
thrtytwo
26-08-2011, 04:48 PM
same as above, payed $300, retail is like $550
some people steer clear as soon as they hear ebay, but its pretty safe if you know how to shop. Ebay monitors fake items very closely so if a seller has 99 thousand positive reviews they cant be bad
brynj
26-08-2011, 04:54 PM
Are any of these Hong Kong watches actually legit? $90 for one of those watches seems way too cheap
thrtytwo
26-08-2011, 05:06 PM
dunno about any for $90, link the watch. But if it says genuine, and the seller has, as mentioned, a fuck ton on positive reviews you can be pretty sure its legit.
I'm sure to an internet shopping skeptic it may be a big leap of faith. But ebay has a big reputation to maintain, if a seller sells thousands of fake goods and then gets fund out, its ebay who will get in the shit, so they monitor it very closely. And as I'm sure you can imagine someone would of noticed if they got a fake watch at some point and raised the alarm. And hey, if the fakes are SO good that no one knows, then who cares haha, might as well be real.
In year 10 a mate of mine was importing ripped DVD's, anime, from singapore and re-selling it on ebay. All looked real, proper reproductions with case slips and everything. only took a few weeks before he got told he couldn't sell anymore.
SimonR32
26-08-2011, 05:26 PM
Yeah ebay are really good, if you receive a counterfeit item and it isn't advertised as a "copy" or "style" etc then you can lodge a complaint and you will get your money back :)
Saying that the sellers on ebay from Hong Kong were only about 10-20% cheaper than some online retailers which is pretty normal for ebay stores!
I also looked at all the sellers that I purchased off negative feedback and searched for the word "copy" or "fake" and it never comes up

new urwerk, wow!
Was released last Wednesday and I love it. This pocket watch will be apparently the size of an iPhone and most likely, in Australia, run about $300-$350k... Couple of friends have Urwerk 202's and one with a Tarantula and I can really appreciate the artistry and design behind them, however they're just not for me. Especially seeing at the $110k mark they purchased them at.
I was lucky enough to have a MB&F HM3 Sidewinder on this past Saturday night. I'm a huge fan of MB&F's work and have spent countless hours looking online at photos, so to have one on really felt nice. The craftsmanship up close is beautiful with the Battle Axe being an amusing feature! :)
Sorry about my shitty iPhone shot, however here's the production shot of it.

Also got myself a display case back for it

Will have to find a nice leather strap for it, as they seem to look like a nice dressy watch with one.

I paid 260 delivered from the Netherlands. A slightly different one with a build number out of 10000 is in the 400 to 500 region. Couldn't justify the exttw dosh cause its made in the original factory over Hong Kong. Well that's the myth anyway. From what I have been reading even the enthusiasts cant be sure which ones are built where lol.

Porsche Design P'6620 Dashboard Watch
Odds are, if you drive a Porsche, you've probably grown quite attached to its spartan dashboard — so it only makes sense that you'd expect the same from a wristwatch. The Porsche Design P'6620 Dashboard Watch (€3,950, roughly $5,550) delivers thanks to its gauge-inspired dial, which boasts date, chronograph, and tachymeter functions, as well as its elongated, dedicated stop/stap buttons, sapphire crystal, water resistance of 330 feet, clear back, 44 millimeter size, and lightweight titanium case and bracelet that comes in sliver or a PVD-coated black. - Uncrate (http://www.uncrate.com)

Well I think I have found the expensive watch so far. Dont know if I am a total fan, not doubting it's cool though.
This wont interest many people on here, but Ive wanted to get my hands on one of these for ages and I finally found one a few weeks ago. Its a limited edition Supra watch. Only 500 made, each one is numbered. Photos taken with my phone so its quite hard to see the logo on the face.
When they are gone they are gone forever. When #500 comes off the line, Fossil will ship us the mold and we will break it ourselves to make sure this watch is never made again.
- 100% stainless steel genuine Fossil watch
- Water resistant to 100 meters
- Custom (not available in stores) black & grey carbon fiber dial
- Luminous hands, and hour markers.
As shown in the picture the word "Supra" is on the face of the watch, but its no screened image. To make sure we created a true 3-D effect, we instructed Fossil to place an actual piece of metal cut in the infamous “Supra” script on the face. Turn over the watch and on the back and you'll see more custom work. The words "Special Edition" are inscribed.

Anyone had good experiences with any watch joints SOR, mainly between carousel and garden city. My handwind Poljot Strela I just bought from Europe winds up but doesnt start moving, damaged during transport :(. Want to get a quote to fix otherwise I will return it to the seller. Seller has offered to refund what a repair would be or do a replacement, hopefully its a cheap fix though.

If you can set the time and wind the watch but it does not start to "tick" it may be a broken main spring. I would think the repair should come to a few hundred at least. If it's a cheap watch it maybe be a good opportunity to DIY if thats your thing. Use the refunded repair costs to buy some tools and hunt around net for the movement diagrams

If the watch is brushed steel its super easy. Use a scotch brite or simlar scourer and rub up and down on the band and case in one direction. As long as there are no dents it'll look brand new.
If its polish stainless steel, you can buy polishing cloths that'll shine it like new also. One brand of such cloth is branded "cape cod". They sell for about 20 bucks for a pack or 3 or 4 i think. You find them easy online or ebay, there is also a small watch shop in the E shed markets in freo that sell them.

On the topic of copies, from what I have read if you want bargain copy TWC and Panerai watches, Parnis are a chinese maker of copies. Tend to use seagull movements which are pretty ok. Supposedly finishing can be abit hit and miss with them though.

haha the fashion right now is rediculous sized watches, you may struggle to find a suitable sized one in that style.
Seems that the smaller sized ones in the style you want are manual wind, larger ones are autos.
SimonR32
15-11-2011, 10:41 AM
I guess that begs the question... How much of a pain in the ass in a manual wind... and how often do you have to do it?
RGVFAST
15-11-2011, 10:44 AM
I dont find them a hassle, i wind mine everytime i think "does it need to be wound?" that way its never our of juice. It only takes a few seconds.
Depending on what movement the one you buy has, it should last 48-52 hours on a full wind.
The only problem is you cant put them in a watch winder to keep it going if you're alternating watches. Its no big deal.

The only problem is he's been back twice and to america and no where he goes has even heard or seen this watch, if any watch fanatics out there could locate one, let me know as I'd love to get another for him for Christmas.
I also picked this up recently as well, it was a Gift from the old man from his travels in Europe, I'm still quite gob smacked that he went and purchased something like this for me (I think it's due to a recent large gift I got him for his b-day), but it's an amazing watch and I love it also!!

Stealthed are you a fan of the Ferrari Panerai collection? After looking at your Tonino, there are some similarities

I don't believe I've seen them, I've only recently taken a liking to nice watches, classy as fuck spec.
Do you have an example/link of the Ferrari ones?
Whoa! Love that Lambo watch Benson!

Ok, well Panerai's a good place to start!
http://www.paneraisource.com/models/ferrari.html
There's a number of variations, check them out on the above. I'm quite partial to the FER00004 & FER00011, same watch just a different coloured face. New the range ran about the $10k mark depending on who you asked, but obviously they've dropped now. Coming from a Ferrari background at work, they were the pieces that introduced me to the more expensive/exclusive marques that I see today.
Can't go wrong with a Panerai, no matter what form!

Some decent watches in that list, nothing really jumped out at me although I didn't mind FER 00006 & FER 00010.
I say jumped out because the 2 I linked earlier really stood out to me, the Lambo one is pretty killer and I didn't really see anything in the Ferrari range that resembled it at all, although we all have different opinions on what's nice and what's not! :D

I wouldn't buy a piece from the Ferrari Collection personally but Panerai do make some very nice understated watches. Like this...

any places someone can recommend were the person who works there will be helpful to someone looking at something under 1500 and not keep trying to point out the brand new thing, that sure is amazing but out of the price range .
stumps.

Syther i recommend you go find what you want then look online. Personally I buy all my watches overseas when on holidays in the other countries duty free stores. Buying online from America / Hong Kong will save you an absolute packet.
