Boys & Girls,
The mrs would like an in-car GPS for her birthday coming up soon, and in actual fact it would pretty much be a present to me more so (no more calling me 'im lost where do i go' haha)..
Who has one and what do people recommend of the most common brands that work in Australia perfectly.. The only ones I really know are TomTom and Navman ?
Budget, i guess 300ish?
Cheers!
I'd look at a Mio Moov 300, 4.3" Screen, Better user interface, can easily be modded and has a good mount that wont fall off your windscreen.
Tomtom and Navman only offer a 3.5" unit in the $300 range and neither the S35 nor the One V4 are that good. Both their mount's are shit, although the TomTom's is easily the shitter mount.

Nice thanks guys.. From what I see so far, I like the map/GUI on the Mio Moov 300 more than the Garmin 260 but will take a closer look at both.. Both have really good reviews..

+1 for Mio. I had one previosuly and was impressed with it. Bought one of those widescreen Mio (now superseded model though, but look slike the Mio Moov ones) for my missus few months ago for her car, real easy to use, has a decent solid mount, but not too big (and not the ghey flexible vibrating one, rather proper adjustable mount), and is packed with features. Compared side by side feature wise for the price, it kicks TomTom's ass.
And for the record, Navman is now owned by Mio too.

I have a TomTom with about a 3.5" screen (needed to be small so I can use it on the motorbike as well). Works a treat. Did me well in Brisbane (was mostly my fault for not knowing roads/not thinking far enough ahead when I took wrong turns, but then it recalculated so all was good).
As long as she isn't hung like a lesbian (fat finger syndrome), small screen won't be a problem.
The part I really liked about it is the sucker is basically built into the back of the unit, so you don't need to carry around/store a bracket as well as the unit. All fits in a hard case I picked up as well.

Some people just can't do it man. And the person in question deson't have a Y chromosome, which means she starts off with a handicap anyway...
Just means you'll get the 'i dont know how to use the gps' phone call.
Time for a new missus.

let me know what one u get, and where the cheapest place was!
been wanting a gps for a while, never really had the money for it as it wasnt something i NEEDED!. but now that their cheap. why not?
theres actually a recent thread here on whirlpool about best gps under $300 (may need an account)
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1112226&p=-1#bottom
a few ppl rekon spend abit more and get the tomtom XL?
pretty sure the mio moovs have a feature called "instant fix" it says it u can hook up to a sattelite 5 times quicker than normal, id probably lean towards the mio, cos the maps/interface i prefer.
but then again im upgrading my phone soon, so might be better just to get a phone with gps integrated!
also supercheap website says "we'll beat any price in town on products we stock" (GPS units that is) - could be worth checking out.
