View Full Version : crank angle sensor, and thermos
Just wondering (hoping) if its possible to relocate a crank angle sensor as were it is currently is smack bang in the way of a supercharger pulley.
second question, as ill bringingthe crank pulley out, it will hit the fan cowling, are thermos on the front as effective?
cheers

Pull type generally flow more and work less from my understanding. But you can run push type thermos, I believe DCEIVE is.
Relocating crank sensor yes, as long as you can alter the trigger angle in the ECU as far as I know.

If your using the same trigger wheel, and the same sensor, at the same speed. You can move it anywhere you like, as long as you can change the angle as cplagz said, or you need to figure out the angles of old sensor to new location and move trigger wheel same angle. But thats just hard
Problem is, with the sensor. Ill be using a pulley that what a version of the car which hard carbie.. I was planning on using a pulley from a model that came with optional a/c which will give me the extra slot to put another belt in. then, changing the pulley on the s/c to suit.
or..
is it possible to modify a standard crank pulley, by adding another one onto it? I understand how important it is that the added one be center.. but is it possible? by moving the fan out of the way I think i could add another pulley which stick out past the crank angle sensor, solving the problem. Im just not sure how i would get it dead straight.
adding a pulley of my choice infront of the existing one would be the best, as i wouldnt have to find a pulley of the same diamitor as the origional one of the S/C but still matching the width of the aircon pulley on the crank.. chances of finding this would be very slim

convert to serpentine belt?
wouldnt that mean getting a custom crank pulley made, as well as custom altenator pulley to fit a larger belt? was told that usng the stock width belt in this fasion will be no good for running boost.
What im being told elsewere, does this sound right?
ou must use the existing pulley and the crank sensor in its current position. No way round that I'm afraid.
Take the pulley driven fan off and fit an electric one. You don't need a thermostat for it, there's an ECU tweak that'll operate the fan for you. That'll give you room to mount a double pulley to drive the blower.
You'll have to stay at fairly low boost because the MAP and ECU are set-up for no more than 1 BAR. If you go above that you're in for major messing with the ECU and mucho dolla!

What about using a different pulley to drive off, ie use alternator one and step it down.... to suit whatever ratio youve come up with. And just get a machinist to turn up a alternator pulley with two belt spots. As the pulley will just come off with one 27mm nut or whatever.
Depends on where you want to mount the s/c i spose
only space for the S/C is on the left, and theres lots of it as the spare tire normally goes there.. could almost fit 2 engines in the bay. I think im gonna go with removing the belt driven fan, getting a pulley spacer, machine the belt pully to take the spacer then mounting a new one on the outside, run the belt across the front of the engine.
been quoted 350 for a pulley.. ouch
