Hi all...

am changing from a 16x6.5 with 205/45 Continental SC2s to a 17x7 rim

Have had conflicting stories from Ian Diff and Roll Right Tyres...

one claims i need 205/40/17 the other says either a 215/35/17 or 215/40/17..

thoughts on the above and suggestions for rubber? don't wanna spend bulk but don't want LingLongs either

Cheers in advance!

$180 fitted...didn't think that was too bad

Who stocks/does 'Marangoni'? Anyone got?

I was told they are 'cheap Pirellis'?

Ive got the marangoni mythos tyres. not too bad at all for an allrounder. held up well at wanners, good on the street, dont wear too quickly. Ian Diffen can get em i think.

I remember seeing a poster about these at Precision Auto Care in Willeton - 9259 1988, ask for Ken, knows his shit when it comes to tyres (been in the game for donkeys years).

There is only 1 Federal distruibutor in Perth, Everyone buys them off them, So pretty much any Tyre shop that wants to buy them can, and they all pay pretty much the same price.

Marnagoni are Italian made and have nothing to do with Pirelli.
Federal are average at best.
Japanese tyres are the best for ride, grip and quality.

opinions on my choice of Maxxis please - whats the industry word?

I didn't think they would be good...but that 06 Wheels tyre test blew that out of the water for me...im guessing the mileage won't be as much as a more expensive tyre?

Maxxis are a good mid range tyre, just like any of the other brand name Chinese product that you can buy.
There is plenty better, but you could do far far worse.

Expensive tyres generally wear out fast due to having softer compounds.

Greater the traction = softer the compound = shorter life of tyre

Some of the cheapies will last forever but are shite for traction and dangerous in the wet

I got a set of maxxis for the VZ, excellent traction and handling (nice firm sidewalls) and pretty good life too. Im just about due for a third pair on the rear but the fronts are still about 50% tread left on the original pair.
