dont think marks the best of overtakers - i think rubens could have held him up either long enough to win the race - or to let vettel catch up to him.

still would have been a closer race.

he definately had the luck of a clear track the whole race.

No- Rubens couldnt hold him up. The second mark caught him, he had to pit.

In the few laps between that and marks stop he put so much time on rubens that he was never going to be behind him at any point in the race.

Congrats to Webber!!! Finally!!!
As for Barichello, makes you wonder if the fuel rig problem was really there or if they were just trying to get him behind Button...

orelse they purposly just put 1 sec more fuel in for him to slow him down.

can understand his frustration. looks like he dropped off the pace though on his own accord though. if he truely felt that hard done by, should have just let alonso past him haha

rubens has now said that now he's seen the numbers he understands that he had no chance of winning the race, red bull were too fast even without the fuel rig fuck up

In Brawn GP's official post-race media statement, Barrichello was quoted as saying the reasons for his failure to win ‘are now very clear to me having spoken to the team’. (http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/090712190619.shtml)

orelse they purposly just put 1 sec more fuel in for him to slow him down.

The delay in the pits was nothing to do with how much fuel went in?

It was a rig malfunction. Whether deliberate or not, has nothing to do with amount of fuel going in.

iluv2moan
14-07-2009, 06:03 AM
think u missed my point.

luke mentioned perhaps the fuel rig mitake might have been done on purpose.. but they could (not saying they actually did) have easily just put in an extra 1 sec of fuel in if they wanted to put him behind button

TJ
14-07-2009, 07:35 AM
Its alot easier to fake a drama by saying fuel rig failed, then by adding more fuel then it needed.

With all the computer stuff in F1 these days, someone could easily generate date to prove they over fueled him.

Mario Theissen has confirmed that Formula One will drop KERS at the end of the year after just one season with the device.

This year's Championship saw the introduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System, however, only four teams, including BMW, have actually used it.

And although two of those four, including BMW, have axed the device, deciding that the power advantage it gives is not worth the extra weight the cars have to carry.

For next year, though, none of the teams will be using KERS with Theissen confirming that the FOTA members have voted against it.

"We have discussed the KERS issue within FOTA and we had a majority agreement not to use KERS next year," Theissen told Reuters.

"We had supported KERS but we have committed to the agreement... so we will not run KERS and there was no FOTA member voting for KERS."

The German, though, isn't willing to write KERS off as a bad mistake, insisting it has its uses.

Thank fuck for that!

satch
23-07-2009, 12:01 PM
Agreed

However both Force India & Williams and the three new teams who are not part of FOTA, have announced nothing of the sort, so we may well see KERS on cars next year.

Williams device is not battery based and they reckon its all the power without the weight penalty.. so might not be the end of that rule.

iluv2moan
23-07-2009, 12:12 PM
might be wrong here, but cant see why f1 want to intorduce cost cutting yet pushing for these new technology advancements like kers makign it out that they will be compulsory, then after most of the money has been spent trying to develop somethign that doesnt appear to be all that worth it, are talkign about dropping it

esky
23-07-2009, 01:11 PM
Kers was introduced to please an EU environmental panel that suggested F1 be restricted because of the enviromental impact it was having, lots of plane flights in carting gear around, race fuels noise polution etc

it was agreed that they would take steps to use f1 techincal capacity to develope new environmentally friendly technologies that could be used in mainstream automotive industries. nothing creates innovation like competion

i would guess that they'll claim that in the current finacial crisis they cant sustain the costs of developing such systems

Massa has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not though to be serious. He is, however, not expected to take part in the race. Ferrari will not be allowed to use a replacement driver unless the stewards agree they may do so under force majeure. Article 19.1 of the sporting regulations states:

During a season each team will be permitted to use four drivers. Changes may be made at any time before the start of the qualifying practice session provided any change proposed after 16.00 on the day of scrutineering receives the consent of the stewards.

Additional changes for reasons of force majeure will be considered separately.

Update: Massa’s injuries have been confirmed as bone damage to his skull and concussion. He will require an operation and is in intensive care. I hope he makes a rapid and full recovery.

+1 for full and speedy recovery!! Crazy bad luck indeed.

He didnt catch him, he was still a good few seconds off easily, but I did say that Alonso would lose the race on first pit, which he did.

Everyone knows each race has potential for different outcomes, and this season has been the least consistent for a while.

Renault have been banned from the European Grand Prix in Valencia on August 23 by the International Motorsports Federation (FIA).
The FIA took the drastic action after a wheel flew off the car of former world champion Fernando Alonso during Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix with the team accused of not respecting security rules.

“Renault are suspended from the next event of the 2009 world championship,” said a FIA statement.

The French outfit announced they would appeal the ban.

“Renault F1, by this document, formally registers its intention to appeal against the decision by the officials,” Renault wrote in a letter to the FIA.

Stewards summoned Renault officials to explain why pole-sitter Alonso's right front right wheel was incorrectly fitted and was allowed to leave the pits.

Video and radio transmissions were studied, and found that Renault “knowingly” allowed the Spanish driver to rejoin the race with a loose wheel nut.

Hans Device,

The HANS doesn't stop the neck snapping, it only reduces the chances. It is meant to reduce the chance of basilar skull fractures as well which is what they believe Felipe Massa suffered. There were also early reports that the only reason he isn't dead is because the HANS device held his neck into position after the crash and stopped further damage.

Ferrari have described as ‘positive’ the outcome of a CT scan carried out on injured driver Felipe Massa on Sunday morning. Massa was awake for some time and has now been returned to an induced coma to aid his recovery.

Massa sustained concussion and a fractured skull during his high-speed qualifying crash at the Hungaroring on Saturday, when he was struck on the helmet by a damper spring from the Brawn car of Rubens Barrichello.

After undergoing emergency surgery in Budapest’s AEK Hospital, Massa was kept under observation in intensive care overnight, suffering no complications. The Brazilian remains in a stable condition and is expected to spend at least the next two to three days under close medical supervision.

He was visited by Barrichello and by FOM CEO Bernie Ecclestone on Saturday evening, before several members of his family, including his wife, flew in from Brazil to be by his bedside on Sunday. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo will travel to Budapest on Monday.

Sounds like he will be ok but surely wont be back in the seat for a while

fourseven
27-07-2009, 11:19 AM
Rubens has been visiting him, updating his twitter stream with news.

Apparently Massa reacted well when his parents arrived so they are hoping there will be no long term damage. His manager has said 2-3 months out, if not the season.

the replays showed the wheel guy still trying to fix the wheel as he drove off. weither its right or wrong the FIA is saying, the wheel guy at a minimum knew it wasn't tight. the team therfore knew. the team therefore let alonso drive with a loose wheel.

plus there had to be some sort of communication. anything that implies continuing to drive drops them in it

Not so good however:

Doctors say it is too early to judge whether Felipe Massa will race again after it was revealed on Monday that the Brazilian suffered damage to his left eye in his Hungarian Grand Prix crash.

Massa is still in hospital recovering from a skull fracture and concussion after he was hit in the face by a spring from Rubens Barrichello's car.

Local media quoted the hospital's professor Robert Veres from Budapest as saying that the eye injury could be enough to end Massa's F1 career.

"He has suffered some damage to the eye," said Veres. "We don't know whether he'll be able to race again."

esky

he has because he jumps in the car seat at the ferrari test track every now and again

still cant see schuey racing tho. whats he got to gain? he can't win a world title. the ferrari most likely wont win a race so theres no motivation there and its not like he needs the money.

he's done the smart thing and retired near the top of his game as the best driver ever. why come back to run around mid field as another also ran.

ferrari need to trial someone thats a potential full time replacement. worst case for massa he might not be back, so they need to start covering this sooner rather then later

Luca di Montezemolo told AutoSport that they were in discussions with Schumacher last night but once again, I can't find the fucking article. I could see him taking Massa's place temporarily given how close they are. Would Schumacher give a shit about his results? Probably not... but how awesome would it be for him to jump in Massa's car and win, straight up. Wishful thinking for me.

Some great news here though... Massa could walk out of hospital within 10 days.

on the massa replacement issue, everyone seems to be forgetting that ferrari have 2 contracted test drivers waiting in the wings for this exact situation. i think it's badoer and gene at the moment. the logical move is for either of those two to just step straight into the car. they've presumably spent some time in the car already even though there is the huge restriction on testing this season.

schumacher was never realistically going to happen, the whispers of alonso are stupid - flavio would never agree to helping ferrari like that, villneuve i can't see getting in even though he's keen as, bourdais got the arse for a reason, and senna has already said no to a midseason start with anyone so the test drivers are still the best options.

true but he did make a bit of a habit of chopping and changing mid season.

MICHAEL IS BACK.

GAME ON!

Michael Schumacher, the seven-times world champion, plans to come out of retirement as Felipe Massa's replacement at Ferrari from the European Grand Prix.

Following days of speculation about who would slot in alongside Kimi Raikkonen following Massa's Hungarian GP crash, Ferrari issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon confirming that Schumacher was being prepared for the role.

The statement said that Schumacher was 'ready' to make his F1 return, and would undertake a training programme over the next few days to ensure he was up to full fitness for an F1 race.

Something like that.

Kimi Raikkonen admits he is considering a move to the World Rally Championship as he takes part in his debut event.

The 2007 F1 World Champion is contesting this weekend's Rally of Finland, pitting his Abarth Grande Punto against the world's best rally drivers.

However, rallying is not new to the Ferrari driver, who has previously driven in a few domestic events, and it could be where his future lies.

"Yes definitely," he said when asked if he would consider a permanent move to rallying.

"I am still in F1 and still have one more year contract but everything is open and it is nice to be a part of it here."

fourseven
31-07-2009, 07:08 PM
It has begun.

Michael Schumacher has began his preparation to return to Formula 1 action at the European Grand Prix next month.

The seven-time world champion will replace Felipe Massa in the Valencia race as the Brazilian continues with his recovery following the accident he suffered at the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend.

Schumacher travelled to Ferrari's factory in Maranello yesterday, where he worked at the static simulator to check the functionality of the steering wheel.

The German has borrowed an F2007 car and he is reported to be testing at the Mugello circuit today since 11am.

and...

The FOTA teams have made an unprecedented decision to allow Ferrari to break the testing agreement and let Michael Schumacher have a day’s running in a current F60.

Schumacher is already in action today at Mugello in an obsolete 2007 car, which pictures show is on slick rather than grooved tires. In theory they should be special Bridgestone ‘demo’ tires rather than pukka 2009 racing slicks.

However as we exclusively revealed earlier Ferrari wrote to the other teams requesting permission for Michael to have a one-day test in the new car. That would allow him to get a feel for slick tires and learn all about KERS and movable front wings before he goes to Valencia, thus giving him a much better chance of making an impact on his first weekend back.

To further complicate matters in addition to the test ban teams have either started or will about to start their mandatory two-week factory shutdowns, and clearly giving Schumacher a test could eat into that time – unless it happens in the next couple of days at Mugello. There is also the possibility of the team using the time to try new parts on the car.

However the FOTA teams have agreed to let the run go ahead.

FOTA Vice-Chairman and Toyota F1 boss John Howett told SPEEDtv.com: ‘I believe all FOTA teams have agreed to accept their request. The situation for Felipe is very unfortunate, and this is a sporting gesture which we are confident Ferrari will respect.’

It’s not known whether Williams and Force India, the two teams currently standing outside FOTA, have also agreed. Unanimity is required if it is to go ahead.

The curious thing is that Ferrari’s letter said that the proposed test was ‘in order to properly evaluate the possibility for his comeback.’

A cynical view might be that his test in the F2007 today would have been more than adequate to judge his fitness and any potential neck problems arising from his February motorbike crash, and that a run in the F60 was therefore not essential.

fourseven
01-08-2009, 07:01 PM
The latest on Schumi's testing.

Schumacher set a best time of 1m23.736s, and although the unusual machinery made direct comparisons difficult, the fastest time recorded during the Ferrari F60's week-long test at Mugello in January was a 1m23.981s by Massa.

And a short video.

Absolutely.

I don't for one second believe Ferrari would ask for permission for Schumacher, a 7 time world champion, to be given the opportunity to test the F60 if they or other FOTA members had denied TR's request for someone's debut drive. Not for a second.

It's pretty clear why Williams spoke up. I think Dietrich is jumping on the bandwagon because he sees Schumacher's return as a major threat to RBR's potential success.

"Guess who opposed the test with the F60? A team that hasn't won anything for years and yet didn't pass over the opportunity to demonstrate once more a lack of spirit of fair play," Ferrari wrote in its official website under a news piece title 'Indiscretion'.

"Just for the record, the Scuderia Ferrari had given its approval to let Alguersuari test, but it seems even in this instance someone decided to stick to the precise wording of the regulations."

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz also said yesterday that his teams were opposing the test.

Respect to VMM for not having a problem with it. Still think Lewis is a prick though.

i would imagine fractured vertebret and F1 g forces don't really mix all that well. in an interview he did say that he's putting his F1 comeback off "for now" possibly in by seasons end if his neck gets better or epic return next year?

on a side note, if renault don't win their appeal and shumi isn't racing then valencia are fucked! it's a cool looking circuit and all but from memory it's another track where overtaking is all but impossible in these current cars. see what happens

well seeings as everyone was shooting down the idea of him even considering making a comeback like 3 weeks ago nothing would surprise me now. he obviously wants to come back and race in F1 otherwise he wouldn't have gone through everything he has in the last few weeks. If teams are allowed to run 3 cars next year and he's keen then i wouldn't be at all surprised if he comes back, ferrari have already said they're keen

After a long break, the Renault ban scandal, the Schumacher returns then doesnt story, and the enforced break for all teams, we are back racing this weekend.

Last year provided us with a boring race around an uninspiring venue.

Will this weekend prove to be a repeat? We hope not.

Its been so hard to predict results with this crazy season, so here is my ideal finishing order -

Lewis
Mark
Rosberg
Glock
Heikki
Vettel
Badoer
Sutil

Brawns to not score after buttons beard blinds him and ross brawn asks rubens to run a 40 stop strategy to not ruin buttons image.

Just a quick reminder to anyone interested that Qualifying is on in 30 mins (8pm) for the Telefonica GP of Europe from Valencia.

Some surprise results with Force India's Adrian Sutil setting the quickest times in free practice and Vettel having mechanical failure, in order:
1. Sutil
2. Nakajima
3. Kubica
4. Kovalainen
5. Rosberg
6. Button
7. Hamilton
8. Trulli
9. Grosjean
10. Buemi
11. Barrichello
12. Heidfeld
13. Raikkonen
14. Alonso
15. Glock
16. Webber
17. Alguersuari
18. Badoer

It’s clear that several fancied runners were unable to conduct their programmes and were thus not where they might have been expected to be, so qualifying this afternoon will have extra spice as they seek to make up ground.

NICE. how you much you bet ?

Put $50.00 on Vettel retiring first (at $25.00) after joking with a mate about Vettel's engine replacement yesterday. New engine, bound to have issues. 2 engine failures in 1 weekend is just bad luck. It's actually $1300 in my pocket, not $1200.

Grand Prix of Europe - Sebastian Vettel - $50 Win - First Driver To Retire (Pending) $50.00 26.00 Pending $0.00 $-50.00

Hows ya mate badoer going there?

Unhappy lewis didnt win, but kinda not upset about it because seeing Rubens win after 5 years is freaking awesome.

RBR have had themselves a disaster.. but should destroy the field at spa. Need a couple of DNF's from Button, with a couple of wins from lewis and some solid points from Ruben and Mark to really turn this into an interesting title race.

Fisi for a amazing pole, Vindaloo Murrali to die of a heart attack!

Now, had I know that would have come true, I would have thrown every single dollar to my name against it.. wonder what it was paying out at? Anyhow, what a great day for F1 in general - great to see the small guys doing so well. Toyota 2nd, BMW third. Rubens 4th, Button nowhere hahahaha!!

Its going to be an insane race. If the trulli train slows down the pack enough ... Fisi could leap so far down the road in 13 laps that he could win this.

If it rains watch the mclarens and rbr chew the field up.

iluv2moan
30-08-2009, 01:22 PM
if we are predicting the start - rubens to be up in 2nd b4 first chicane

trulli by far heaviest of the front runners, pretty impressive time. would be good to see toyota have some success.
