Yo,

So im about to fork out my k-rudd dosh for some new tyres for le chaser.

Im running 18x9 and 18x10, currently with 225/40/18 and 265/35/18

Im wondering, I want a lower width tyre so the tyres can tuck under my guards.

What risks do I run if I put on 225/40/18 and 245/40/18?

Will there be a chance I could roll the rim off the wheel if I get a bit sideways or whatever? or any other problems I could encounter?

Thanks in advance

Terry

I run the same 9 and 10 with 225 and 245. The 245 on 10" barely looks stretched while the 225 on 9" is a bit much imo (and the tyre shops struggle with it).

Mind if you post a pic of the stretch on the rears?

Which tyre shop do you use DCIEVE? The normal West State/TTF don't want to go lower that 235 on a 9" rim? I was puzzled that they didn't want to do it.

i had 215's and 225's on 17x9's, the 215's looked too stetched, and really struggled to get it on the rim, the 225's didn't look too bad.

i've gone back to 235's now though, dirt cheap, and my guards are rolled, so rubbing shouldn't shread the tyres

I'd say its because getting a 225 on a 9" can be tricky to do without scratching the rim - and depending on the tyre you may need a bead blaster.

I started a thread a while back asking the same question and there were a fair few suggestions - dig it up and go with whichever shop suits you.

op - pm sent.

225/40R18's on a 18x9 shouldn't be that difficult, a few manufacturers actually specify 7.5 - 9" being the designed rim width.

245/40R18's shouldn't be TOO difficult either, they specify 8 - 9.5" for that.

a workmate had 235/40R18's put on 18x9.5's with no issues.

I've had a few shops fit 245's on 10" without any problems, but fitting 225's on the 9" was a struggle- might be the tyres but there was plenty of swearing involved. I'm sure if they werent brand new wheels it would have been a little easier though.

heres a thread on silviawa i started, heaps of places that will be willing to stretch tyres
http://www.silviawa.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=46739&st=0&start=0

a 225/40/18 on a 9" wide rim is pretty tame stretch..
http://www.tyrestretch.com/

every tyre will look different stretched, alot due to sidewall design and just general shape and design of the tyre.

completely unsure about how it will go under load tbh.
i ran 215/45 on a 9" rim no dramas at all, and thats a average stretch compared to others

Also some brand of tyres are made wider, eg not all 235/45R17 and 235mm wide.
I had 275/30R19's on the back of the mrs RX7 with 9.5's and they fitted as normal, I the put 245's on and the looked normal too, now I got 235's in another brand and the hardly look stretched at all.

The biggest stretch I have ever fitted was a 215 on a 9 inch rim and I reckon that was a bit much.

Most of the latest released patterns for Jap brands are wider than specified and mort of the china spec shit is skinnier.
Not always but most of the time.

what about running 235/35 and 255/35?

what differnce will that make in terms of appearence, wear and handling

255 continentals looked better stretched on a 9.5" than sumitomo and dunlop 245s on the same rim

Friend of mine runs AVS model 5's on his silvia

18x10's allround. Believe hes running 225's on the front and 245's on the rear.

You can see down into the rim, its just hanging onto the bead

Sounds like my old wheels hah. When i got em they had a 215/40 stretched on fronts and 225/40 on rear (keep in mind both fronts and back were 10"!). Wezz ran em on his drift car with no problems at all.. Smoked those babies down to the belts with out em coming of the bead. When i had to replace em I ended up putting 225's on front and 235's on rear. But then the offset of wheel wouldn't clear my coilovers and i didn't wanna run spacers and wide fenders, so i gave up.

Fc3s, you'll be fine man with stretches like that (although not sure about running 35 profiles). Just make sure you keep your tyre pressures up and stay the hell away from curbs. Also just be aware that cops can defect you for them. But there's probably other stuff on your car they'll pick first anyways.

im suprised places have a problem with 225/40s on a 18x10, thats what i have on some of my 18x10s at the moment, and i fitted them fine (and im no tyre fitter) and went on easy with a bead blaster.. 235/40s on a 18x10 didnt even need a blaster.

the amount of stretch will also depend on the brand of tyre... falkens, bridgies, etc look more stretched than say a nexen, federal..

Yeah that's the main problem.. Try getting em fitted in a place that does truck tyres. They always have bead blasters.

Just a bit of a bump.

Did this for a customer. 225-40-18 on a 18x10. 1 went up after 2 goes, 2nd needed a bit of a hand with a special technique, but they both went on. Cheap tyres Durun A-One.

love strected tyres but only work on smaller cars i reckon as the rims need to be small ie - 15 \ 16" rims

Had to look for a bit to establish if those were my rims or not.

Anyway ended up getting 225/40/18 and 235/40/18 on the le Chaser, car looks sweet, dropped it a bit lower.

what offset did you get?

guard mods?

tyre wear?

suspension arm upgrades?

interested to know as I am looking for wheels for my X100 also.

terry can't dump his car else tyres will rub guards aha lol

As you probably know, I got 225/40 s03 on 9.5 and 235/40 ns2 on 10.5 with -2.5 camber seem ok. guards rolled/lipped on rear but. Fronts do rub under hard cornering but car is fairly low & i run dampers fairly soft.

Unless you live in Bunbury and own an S13, they definitely aren't your rims ;)

He has 225-40-18 all round from memory. Should look good.

235/40/18 Rears

Tein Type HE coilovers, lowered, uhhh, a bit?

Camber is -1.5 all round from memory, no particular tyre wear, rears have been rolled.

Fronts scrape a bit under cornering.
