View Full Version : Who can lock my diff?

I've been to a diff shop twice for them to lock my diff and both times the welds on it have broken, within 2k's of driving it.. I'm a bit sick of this because it is a "specialist" diff shop who can't build a decenct locker..

So, I'm wondering if anybody on here is keen for a bit of a cashy to do it properly for me on a weekend or whatever.

Thanks.

Chris

ive seen led filled diffs break, welded diffs break in a fukn sprinter with near stock motor, now am i right to think your talking about something heavy? if so..only way to lock it properly and permantly is spool, or Lokka or something like that, wont welding it constantly and then it breaking make your teeth on your gears break apart and fuk out anyways and welding bolts in make it spin off balance?

just weld it, and keep welding, and keep welding

sounds like they're just slapping a few small tig/mig wleds onto it

basically you gotta melt the gears together, fill the thing with metal at lots of amps, and the gears will never move

should take even a retard with half a clue about 10 minutes to have it never break..

only slight problem that u might want to consider - when we welded mine - didnt bother to strip the centre so the bearings would have seen som epretty high temps, made them ever so slightly notchy which did go away with some use but just a heads up if its a long term thing.

my welded diff saw drags, street and drifts in 1450 kilo car and never had a problem.

For shimming / mech centres and rebuild Greg Dally is your man.

For welding I have used rotomotion.

arc is fine, provided you crank the amps right up and use thicker rods so you can get the gears melting..

do you know if they put steel offcuts in the center area of the spider gears, allot of people don't. this way you will end up with a solid chunk that wont move, even if does break you probly wouldn't notice. ive done this to three gemis and a KE70 rolla with a V6 in it and have never broke one.but i don't have Mig anymore sorry bud.

nah from what I saw they didn't put anything in there. Just welded the corners of the spider gears and that was it..

Surley someone's keen for a cashie?

Take it to Briffa Engineering in Malaga. He will do it properly with the steel offcuts mentioned above.
