Sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forums, just want to get it out there while the car may still be on the road...

One of the guys at work has just had his Clubby knocked off, less than half an hour ago...

It's a black VY and has a FOR SALE sticker on the rear windows with his mobile number under it... So... if you spot one with a for sale sticker and mobile number, can you call that number and tell him you've seen his car on the road?

Rims are chrome, polished GTS 5 spoke jobbies... Rego is 1BGP-496...

I'll get more details to make it easier to identify ASAP...

Oh, work is Melville Holden, and it was stolen here...

a bit of an update... the couple that stole the car, also stole another car this morning, from Maddington, a blue VY v6 sedan, with a VZ looking HSV body kit...

the clever couple happened to leave a drivers license behind at the car yard they took the first car from, and left one of the keys to the v6 behind here when they took the clubsport...

pretty easy open and shut case to prosecute them, just have to get them first. and lets hope the cars are both ok and undamaged :)

Sorry not sure why I wrote middle age, driver would have been mid 20's.

This clubby was debadged and sounded good.

FIL
10-06-2009, 02:23 PM
yeah... assuming the license actually belonged to the person who took the cars, prosecution should be pretty straight forward... the main concern is getting the cars back before they get cut up or crashed...

I dont like peoples cars being stolen but if he was trying to sell it anyway surely he is happy about it?

Insurance company will pay him for the car rather than having to take a low ball offer from someone else.

FIL

nah.... i don't know why, but the car wasn't insured....

it's been happening for years.... a bloke i used to know let someone take his 1600 tarmac rally car for a test drive with his dad in the car... half way thru the drive they stopped, dragged the old man out of the car and drove off...

FIL

and 4 hours later, the cops have finally turned up to get the details :)

No insurance + giving some stranger keys for a test drive = asking for trouble

Hang on, no insurance and he just gave em the keys and said take it for a spin? Did anyone go with them? IT's a shame it happened but really shouldnt of happened if your mate was thinkin straight.

Driving with no insurance deserves bad shit to happen in my book.

If you can't afford insurance you can't afford to own a car

he went for a test drive with the guy, when they got back, the bloke said 'i'll just go down the bank and get some money, here's the keys to my car as security'

dude wasn't thinking straight, and by the time he got to where the other car was parked, it was gone too...

i think he would agree with you on that one... the salesmen have already pointed out 'thats what happens when mechanics try to sell cars', but meanwhile, a yard in Maddington let the guy get away leaving his license behind... (Assuming it was actually his license, as we all know just how good license photos are and how closely people check them)

My mate had a VE SS stolen from Maddington 5 weeks ago.
He is a salesman at DVG perfomance center, took a guy for a test drive when he was swaping seats the guy locked all doors and drove off. car's been found!

i worked for bmw for 3.5yrs, in that time i never had a person try to steal a car, basic common sense, when i stopped on a test drive to swap is take the keys out. The smarter people noticed this.

this guy sounds like a knob end in both aspects having no insurance and letting the buyer drive the car to the bank with his car without him. and now he has learnt the lesson.

I think if you hand them the keys it's not covered by insurance

YOUR MATE

Thats what I was under the impression of. I think they only cover it if it was stolen from your house with keys, but say you left it at a mates house and keys were there and it's nicked you get nothin. Pretty sure saying "i let the guy take it to the bank and he didnt com back" wont get you anything.

Lonewolf

insurance doesnt cover stupidity

Drift_R32
14-06-2009, 07:33 PM
even when i left my keys on site and they were stolen the insurance company was constantly trying to make me slip up and make it seem like i left them out to be taken..

if he puts in the report " i gave the keys to a complete stranger and he then got in my car and drove away and did not return" they would not cover him like me giving my keys to a coon at balga IGA and expecting him to know i dont want him to steal my car

FIL

update time: car was found in Mt Barker.... apparently the fella that took it, dropped off the other car at the dealer in maddington (cops didn't expect him to go back to pick up his license, other dealer didn't try to detain him)

and then he proceeded to drive home... to Albany....

he's now facing 2 more counts of stealing cars, apparently he has a pretty big list already though...

Scaf
16-06-2009, 08:49 PM
And the cars alright?

31-EVO
16-06-2009, 08:53 PM
Probably test drove each car to find the one with the most fuel in it.
Hope the car is ok

FIL

apparently the cop who found it said 'the light wasn't the best, so hard to be sure, but it looks like it is unmarked'
