Anyone in Perth much chop at modifying intake manifolds for better performance?
I have a 2 piece std alloy intake manifold, that I want to get reworked to suit high rpm power (shorter runners, different plenum etc), whilst maintaining factory IACV and other sensors.
Or at least look at porting it properly etc. Preferably someone with a flowbench to show gains, or someone with proven gains.
Anyone in perth suitable?

what did you get done, and what sort of pricing?

i got quite a bit done.
exhaust, 2x tow hooks, inter cooler piping, in-take plennum, 90mm throttle body to fit, coolant over flow bottle, oil catch can, remote battery holder & bracket and a plate to fill where my radio was for switches.
mates rates 2500, i know wayne very well

Sorry mate, but if blake put that on his ve he would make a reduction in power.
That is not a very good design, at all. Good welding by the looks of it. But bad design

that manifold would be better off as a letter box..
or possibly a door stop
anyway, for porting work, Leon at A1 hi performance, for a custom mani, get some good designs then go see the guys at LF, or poswsibly contact hypertune and see if they have not done something already like this..

Issue I have is that a turbo manifold is relatively easy to construct, it just needs to flow well, whereas one of my car neers to take into account flow as well as velocity.
i have a tentative quote from a guy over east who makes custom plenums, but wanted to see if someone locally could do something similar.

Also saf does good work ive heard, but is busy last i spoke to him. Lots on his plate.
Ever thought of using something like what i did, used a tried and tested design for a evo8, chopped it and welded my mazda flange to it. When i was researching i just bought a whole bunch of intake gaskets for different cars and the evo has direct port spacing..... I held a hypertune one and my one side by side, and there was very little difference. So i chopped a china one and welded my own 90mm throttle body to it rather than chop a hypertune one.
I called hypertune, and all the places in the hot4's mag (theres a bloke that sells plenums), no one wanted to help, someone did return my call and offered to make me something like what you see above. I politley said thanks but no thanks.
I dont know if this design will work for your motor but?
EDIT - that photo barely shows it

Not sure if anything would be similar to the 20VE intake, particularly something cheap and china (and designed for an n/a application)
looking for something like this (this is a DE one)

Looking to keep under the $1k mark, but i can guarantee that if it produced good results, there is a market in the states/NZ to sell more for an interested party.

I had a standard S15 SR20 intake manifold "power ported" and flow balanced by Andrew Sanders in the east.
On the flow bench at 28 inches, the flow of each runner increased by an average of just under 50cfm over stock, and all runners flowed very nearly the same - impressive.
Never tried it because I then bought the Hypertune setup.

I'm sure you've already looked into this, but would it be worth while getting you hands on the GTiR intake?
Even though its designed for FI, the ITBs would be a welcome addition on an NA I would think?

yeah have already looked at it
different flange, and too restrictive in an n/a application

Have you thought about buying something like this
http://www.mazworx.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2957
And then get a plenum made to suit

yeah, but turbo only at this stage according to them, and a bit out of budget by the time you convert to AUD + shipping + plenum.
Likely just go with this guy from over east and hope for the best...

looks like Josh @ Metalcraft Marine is interested in building me something :)
Based on some formulas, ive come up with the following
peak torque @ 7000rpm
plenum volume: 1.2L (give or take)
runner length: 30cm from opening to bellmouth - from the formula i found i take it this means from intake valve to bellmouth?. I would think 30cm (12") runners would be too long.
Going on the 7" figure people recommended here, thats 177mm long.
runner diameter: works out to 50mm, so I will likely use 50mm ID x 150mm long velocity stacks. Add about 30mm of flange/std runner and should get to my calculated length.
any knowledgable input?
