Hopefully someone might know a bit about these, got a mate who has killed the diff in his VE Clubsport, Holden want $5k for a new one.
Im thinking he could get something better from an aftermarket source, any suggestions ?

Whats exaclty wrong with the diff? If the lsd is shot, you could get a KAAZ 2 way and some billet cv's(or whatever holden use) put in for less then 5k i reckon.

ZF diffs
depending on what your mate has killed depends on the options.
$1500 gets a new complete HSV 3.7 diff from VCM, holmart, etc or even a dealer if u know the right ppl.
if the LSD is farked and the rest is good just go a Harrop TruTrack diff and u wont look back and will have alot of trouble breaking it

unsure what dealership said it was $5k, but basically its binding up under cornering and according to holden it was "user abuse" and wont be covered under warranty. hes currently speaking to fair trade about it but wanted to know of other options.
cheers for the info guys, i'll let him know

is it actually dead from abuse though ? my mates got a SS with decent power and hes already having problems with 3/4 synchros and its done like 20xxkm i think he drives like a nanna no smashing gears..VE running gear is weak as piss from the sounds of it
