Hey all,

Well today i was driving round in my wikid daily, a 96 EL Fairmont, I went to
Turbotech turned the car off then went to start it again and it wouldnt start?
Has no spark whatsover. We changed the coil, checked all fuses, relays etc.
and still no deal? Any ideas?

Is it a single coil to Distributor set up?
I remember I heard of a common problem with these, Something about a broken wire or dodgy connection in or part of the distributor that stops connecting and gets no spark,
Try changing dizzy.

If its that setup of course :)

The immob system that is factory fitted, if it won't turn off, it won't start IE no spark

ok do you have interior lighting?

if not, its a red 10A fuse named CRT LMP
its the mains fuse

if its not cranking, the ECU relay could be fucked ($10 relay)

It has interior lighting, all dash lights work, guages, everything works, turns over fine but no fire.

They got a secruity light that flashes on the dash ? If that won't stop flashing whilst cranking there is something wrong there.

Very common for pick-ups or ignition modules, both of which are located in the distributor. If one is gone normally we would just change the whole distributor as they are usually at least 200 thou kms old with worn cap and bush.
As you have discovered they are a prick to change (and not put back in 1 tooth out), but like I said they are common so I wouldn't recommend putting a second hand one in. You will probably end up doing the job twice.
Worth testing first though, no guarantees it will be the distributor, they are just real common for it. And from memory smartlock problems cut injector pulse not spark. (Willing to be corrected on that).

Nope your right :) I knew it was one or the other on the older Falcons.

The distributors are the biggest known cause of no start/ no spark related issues, well the ones I have done anyway.

Ill have to check that security light thing, im pretty sure it goes off tho.
Looks like ill change the dizzy/ignition module and see how i go.

Thanks heaps for the help guys.

Yeh just do a whole dizzy, first port of call

Smart lock fuse will stop it cranking, not sparking

Main relays are located just under teh coolant over flow bottle (top job ford), however if your getting injection pulse this is not the case.
