in my mates r32, we were driving and he gave it abit of shit then about a couple of minutes later we could hear a rattle in the engine. It sounded like something was loose but the car still drove fine.
On the power fc hand controller the KNOCK light was flashing and i know thats not good.

Any ideas?

big end bearing, does it knock @ idle?

yeh it does but as i said its more of a rattle and it sounds like its coming from the top of the motor.

farrrk....big end bearing i rekn..starts soft at first and will gradually get louder.

What revs did it do it at? Is it also manual/auto? A few months back I had same problem in my XR6T. It would give off a rattle sound under 1000-1500RPM but nothing when it was over. The problem we found was all the flexplate bolts had come basicly off and was hanging on 1 bolt....

New bolts on flexplate = problem fixed.

But not sure if thats the problem in his.

As said by others sounds like the bearing. Hopefully not though for your mates sake.

disconnect each coilpack 1 pot at a time & see if noise decreases at idle

could also try the screwdriver trick on camcover, block etc

idler tensioner pulley or water pump bearing if it sounds like top of motor.. if its either of them you might as well replace both, $250ish for belt kit and $60 for a VLT water pump

yeh could be water pump bearing had it happen to me, went over all the vavle clearances thinking it was one was loose, but yeh water bearing pump just shat, was so loud..was quiet first then got hell loud. uncommon for a skyline though.
