I'm using just cars however there excess is fairly hefty at $1800
Is shannons excess lower? They wouldnt give me a quote until i went 1 year without fines. Most others wont insure Skylines/Imports

Yeh have always been with RAC, but just bought a VY clubsport with 30 grands worth of receipts and they don't want to know about it.
Just cars quoted me $1533 a year, as a stock clubby, with agreed value of $23,400, have to ring back with list of mods, and he said the premium will go up but no guarantee the agreed value going up!

Cam Shannons might insure you, if you talk to the right people. I'm not 25, I've insured my SS for 30k (max I could) and it's a grand a year, with my having lost license in the last 5 years (points). There are heaps of people on here who can help you, Deluca helped me out

I'm also keen to hear who people are insured with, I was insured with RAC with the car in my dads name (no one would insure it in mine), 65% no claim bonus and me as a nominated driver, with a rediculous excess was 2500 a year. And the car was stock with rims. I'm thinking of going with shannons, limited use but, will they insure me being 21? What do others pay?

Don't mean to hijack thread cam.

I use Shannons and when i got it done i was 21.
I think there good because they cover all my mods and agreed value aswell.
The only thing is when you get it covered for anything over $8000 you will need to send them some pic of your car in its present state.
Sleekman is right they dont like fines tho!

What do you rekon the chance of getting insurance with shannons would be after getting done for dangerous driving? im 23 and havnt lost any points in the past 2 years...

im also keen to find out about shannons under 25. if someone from there could comment.

im insured with shannons.
im 22.
still have original licence, although 3 points left, but no fines in 16/17 months.
my Cams licence helped too
fg insured full comp for 45k with all mods listed

with shannons, you can get insured under 25.
just depends on driver history, location (needs to be in enclosed garage), etc.

Ok I'll have to start looking into it.
Probably give them a call later, but while were on the subject, does anyone know if they will insure it now even though it not finished? Then I'll upgrade it or something once it's done?
I just hate the fact it's sitting in the shed not insured, god forbid someone broke in and took it, I'd be fucked.

Tocchi
25-01-2010, 10:14 AM
^^ they do coverage for that too, has to be fully enclosed though as well.
got quoted $400 each (or near) for the 32 and capri to be insured.
but thats insurance for cars NOT driving on roads. lay-up or something its called?

just need to increase coverage once car is running :)

Cool is it like a fire and theft thing? Also does it cover transporting the car, say if it fell off a trailer?

I'm 19 and with Just Car.

Shannons didn't want to hear of insuring me, and you have to prove you are a car enthusiast as well (car resto projects, car clubs, magazine subscriptions, car events/shows etc. etc.)

Just Car want $310 a month, $3600 excess, $2550 excess in the event of fire/theft. Rating 7 though, imported '95 RZ Supra.

RAC/GIO/SGIO and all those didn't even want to hear about a Supra import in general.

Seems Shannons or Just Car are the way to go regardless.

Just got the renewal for insurane on the Evo, and it has dropped about $250 from last year, that is with Just car, but I find/found they aren't particually nice to deal with over the phone. Shannons I had much better dealings with, but unfortuntey were not able to insure me due to driving history being present still. ( loss of licence )
Also with just car, make sure you are clear on what it is you own, I've repeated myself many times, but every time I try to rectify the listing of my car, it always remains listed as a 2001 Evo 6,Aus delivered, when it's clearly a 2001 Evo7 JDM import. Other than that, Just car insurance have been ok, but when I'm able to, I will swtich to Shanons car insruance.

I did a quick JustCars online quote and it was $1520 annually and $400 excess (Rating 1) for a comprehensive value of $16500.
Ticked a heap of the modified boxes too, and was surprised at the end that they covered all the mods in the quote - thought most places don't cover aftermarket additions?

my 33 was with just car... they were a bunch of pingpingpingpings to deal with when it got written off. ended up claiming on the other guys insurance as it was cheaper and easier for me!

had the legnum under shannons, and it was 1000x better.

Just got off the phone with shannons, and yes they are awesome to deal with.

They said that lay-up or whatever its called is basically full comp while its being built. It covers it for everything, fire, theft, someone running it to it, it falling off a trailer etc.
The moment the car is moving under its own power the insurance is void.

They quoted me 597.75 a year for it, but this will change once i send through photos and a list of specs and they quote it fully, based on my agreed value.
Ill let you know what the final quote is, and what my full insurance quote is.

Yeah as they say - you're insurance company is only as good as when you go to make a claim. No point saving a couple of hundred dollars initially if it means months of trying to get them to pay up.

Shannons wont insure me cause of my reckless driving charge back in 2006 :(, gotta wait another year before they will.

Currently paying $1572 premium a year with RAC, jus tried to get a quote from AAMI and they wanted $2800 a year haha, guess ill change to shannons end of next year

I've made 3 at fault claims through Shannons and 1 not at fault claim through insuremyride.com (sister company of Shannons), all of which have been completely hassle free. Couldn't recommend them more.

So you have to wait 5 years after a reckless driving charge before Shannon's will insure you full stop?

Not necessarily, all other things take into account like age and wat kind of car you are insuring. But yeh all over insurance companies ask in the last 3 yrs have you lost your licence or had it suspended?

Im almost 22 and had my licence back for almost 4 yrs and still got 12points

Shannons rules, I can say that now.

Make sure you understand the laid up cover if your going to take it and make sure you update them if you are going to drive it under its own power.

have all my cars insured thru hbf - they do imports too (might help if you have home/contents & or health cover tho)

was expecting insurance for the new territory to be pricey compared to the shitter 2003 magna.

$8000 value Vs $40,000 - only $70 more a year for the terri, wtf!

AAMI

THIS ^

AAMI were less than half the price of everyone else bar Just Cars when I insured my Phoon back in 2008. Worked out that with the same excess as the SGIO policy the AAMI premiums set me back about a third of the cost of those from SGIO.

They're not too bad on claims either, the only downside compared to someone like the RAC or similar is the 'competitive quoting' where you have to provide at least two quotes to repair any damage and the "Most competitive & complete" is selected. Bit of a fuck around, and some of the better places wont waste their time quoting AAMI work.

*Insured me at 18 with a Typhoon, agreed value at the time was just shy of $50k IIRC, is around $40k now
*Cost fark all, $130 a month full comp (now $110) including hire vehicle & a free windscreen annually
*Paid out on claims no worries
*Don't have a problem with Intercooler, surge, dump & cat, Bilsteins, sway bars etc etc

I thought that it was 3 years after a driving charge that the insurance companies stop reaming you?

as an example the Just Car's online quote the question is..
" In the last 3 years, the youngest driver has had the following number of: " Licence suspensions, cancellations or disqualifications

+1 for AAMI - haven't claimed through them, but they were half the price of RAC after i was chasing renewals and had pranged my car. I believe I got a 3 pointer for careless driving? :/
