ok well this is doing my head in now, recently got a r33 4 door
fitted
turbo back exhaust
fmic
intake kit
blitz dual sbc
now on .5 bar it runs wonderfull but anything over that boost once it hits about 5k it runs like shit spluttering and poping and not wanting to go anywhere
so i replaced the plugs with new .8 ones
siliconed up my coil packs, now this made it better but didnt fix it so i figured this is what the problem was so swapped them out for a working set but its still there
running out of ideas guys so need some help what else should i check/look for
got no more ideas as it runs mint upto .5 bar
thankyou
Ben

The bottom line is the spark is not strong enough to hold through boost.
Pull the plugs and check the gap with some feeler gauges to ensure it is actually set at .8mm, you should allways check regardless of the packaging.
failing that your coilpacks will be the weakest link, go for a drive up the street with the centre cover over the coilpacks off. Get it to missfire (so up the boost).. then return in the driveway and pull the plugs and check and find the odd one out.
the series 1 have like an ignitor amplifier dont they? if you have allready put in another set of coilpacks it might be worth looking at that and seeing if you can swap someones coilpack loom over to try also
what exact plugs are you running?

they are a bosch plug that i gapped from 1.1 to .8
i cut the cover so only the end coilpack is covered as the module sits on that
will 1 plug be differet coloured on the tip?

with the loom, when i was replacing the coil packs the plastic was hard and the clips for the coil pack pluigs broke, they still push on there fine but would be a good idea to get another loom anyway?

The plug/plugs that are not sparking correctly will have a buildup of soot on them/unburnt fuel.
the coilpack looms can cause an issue as well, because of age/heat the wire breaks down and you can get a weak contact within the wire itself. The clips on the plugs breaking off is pretty common but its not going to cause your issue.
If you know somebody who has a 33 T1 I would be swapping over his setup (plugs/coils/loom and ignitor which should eliminate the problem, then its a process of elimination swapping your bits back onto your car until the car starts to play up again.. Make sense?
I think your car will have the same gear as a RB20 as well, T2 33's have a different setup.

common issue with 33s especially S1s, coilpacks are just weak as shit. Ex missus's 33 did the same thing, gapped em down to 0.68, ok for awhile then started again... set of splitfires and off it went
Sounds like its hitting factory boost cut TBH, You have all the mods to induce boost creap, factory computer goes "OH NO!!!!" Cuts ignition, car runs like shit...
Get spitfires and a computer for it, or a Fuel cut Defender!

spoke to a few different work shops today and was told these things
fuel pump and filter
bosch plugs are shit change to nkg and gapped to .6
will change filter and plugs tonight and see how we go, will a safc be enough to get past the boost cut?
I've seen a trust pannel filter cause that.
Try running no air filter
run ngk copper plugs
could be an ignition modual so if you can swap one out with a friends

it wont be that, it wont be a fuel pump either..
its ignition related
oh and if I was a betting man I rekon it ends up being the AFM.
Dirty fuckings spray some throttle body cleaner through it maybe.

at least now u know :) it will start happening again at some point down the track, but least now you can go straight to a new set of coilpacks and never worry about it again :)

.6! shit.. your coilpacks are rather weak!

thats what hypers told me to do
but when looking at the bosch plugs the top part where the coil pack sits is hollow where as the ngk one is solid if you get what i mean so the ngk plug has heaps more contact area for the spring in the coilpack, i would think this would have been the problem the whole time :)

.6 is a tiny ass gap, I'm not a tuner or a guru, but I've always run .8 on my S1 25, but I also have splitfires, the old ones did exactly what yours are doing. I never went down to .6 though, I'd say it might start doing it again as DTM suggested. Kinda keen to know if it will/does.

will keep this thread updated as to how it goes then, looking to get on dyno shortly to tune up safc
dont really want to go to splitfires but if that what it comes down to i guess i will ha ha

no miss nothing still runs like a dream

6 is ghey, you want 7,s
or 8,s if running 1bar+
KAMAKAZ

why is that?

why? i run well over a bar on 6's with no issues.
do you actually have first hand experience with RB's running big boost??
you can run a larger plug gap - which means bigger bang
look into it yourself if you dont believe me
not rb but it did work for me with a 4g63 running 1.6bar

all good here :)

whats the benifit of a larger plug gap? if a smaller gap works cant i just stick with that ?
as i said above, a bigger gap gives a bigger bang, bigger bang gives more hp
rb,sr ca etc etc

next service i will change to colder plug with larger gap see how we go, was pretty impressed with the power it made though for just cooler, inake, exhaust and safc
