Hi

Ive got a block with pistons / crank / sump still in it, and want to run something to clean any crud out before i slap the heads back on (basically im trying to avoid removing the pistons, as then ill have to do the sensible thing and put new rod bearings in etc etc)

any suggestions as to what sort of products to use? people have recommended kero, but is there anything specifically for this kind of thing?

deisel..

it has a detergent in it that breaks down all the sludged up oil ect..

We use it all the time at work when we need to remove sludge from timing chain setups and hydraulic lifters. We even use it by draining the oil, using 2 litres of diesel and the rest engine oil and run the car at idle for 20 minutes, you would be amazed how good a job it does.

but seeing you are not running the car straight deisel will be fine

we just let it drain fully and put new oil in, if there is a small amount in there in gallery somewhere its not going to do a great deal of harm, if anything it will aid a bit more cleaning on the next engine flush.

but if ur anal like me I would run up some shit oil in it first - run it up and flush... and then put ur decent stuff in

whats the best way to do it? flip engine over, remove sump, run diesal through, turn crank manually, dump, repeat?

why are your jocks next to the motor? What do you need to flush out of there?

100% cotton undies. fantastic for cleaning once the elastic has gone due to my large package.

Run a straight edge over those liners!

Open deck motors with liners have a uncanny habit of moving, with very little sealing area (only the rings on the gasket) to seal it will leak with very little warp.

Use metho to clean it, USE hyolmar on the gasket

Jackaroo or rodeo v6?

when you say metho to clean it, are you referring to top surface?

Referring to the whole lot, cleans residue off good, spesh oily residue

Didnt realise KL's had open deck.
