does anybody have/know what tool is required to removed the centres from SSR rims?
it looks like a 10/12 sided ~8mm allen key bit (my torx bits didnt fit it)

You need spline bits
Spline drive, is a fastener specification.
A spline drive bit or socket has 12 teeth. Spline drives are sized via numbers. #5 is one common size. It is different from the 12-toothed triple square and double hex drivers
The primary advantage spline drive and other special fasteners (such as torx) have over older standards, such as the common Phillips head (and its sibling Pozidriv), is that it resists cam-out, and is thus used in higher-torque applications. Incidentally, the spline drive is also often used in tamper-proof lug nuts on cars.

Hey mate, could you explain this bit? I'm interested to find out more on them. :)

probably refering to these type wheel nuts

i have a set of these, and they are GREAT.
cause they are all the same, you use the one socket to remove them all, not switching sockets for normal lock nuts.
and then essentially every wheel nut is a lock nut, i'm sure they can still be removed without the proper key, but like locknuts they are more of a deterent than a guarantee.

i hit up ebay for some, cause i refused to pay $200+ for a set that say work/volk on them.
i paid about $50 for my set, cause i went with some decent ones.
