Trevs going to love it when his beloved Holden or Ford don't win a race for 15 months straight and the rules have to be change to give the locals a chance.

here continues the death of taxi racing in aus

thank fuck for that! will be very interested to see what the reaction to all this is. it can only be a good thing for racing in australia. having the premiere category in the country staying pretty much stagnant for this long hasn't been that good for it. no space for new ideas so people bugger off overseas

aslong as its NA only, it could be quite competitive...

If this was announced last night at the acdc concert, there could have been a mass cult suicide in protest.

im not biased, i just hate how they market holden vs ford when its basically the sheetmetal that resembles the production car, would be great to see some modern engine based cars.

Ford and Holden, which are involved in V8 Supercar to promote locally built cars to an Australian audience, are unlikely to be as impressed.

I think that adding euro's to the mix would be a fucken awesome idea. It will sure make it more interesting.

This was going to happen a few years back when the Chystler 300C was first introduced.

This was going to happen a few years back when the Chystler 300C was first introduced.

AFAIK the 300c was only ever gonna be the Pace car, There was a big announcement for it and all.

Holden wont be able to whinge, what with HSV boss always saying their main competition is Audi and the other big Euro's and that Ford are beneath them every time he makes a press statement.

I seriously doubt it would change much to be honest btw.

the cars are shadows of the real deal, any hi tech v8 would limited to ensure it made the same power the current ones are, its aero would be restricted so it wouldnt make more then current 2.

May as well rebadge half the field atm, nothing else is changing.

Gaining a wider audience isnt such a bad thing ,maybe even good for the sport itself (More sponsors and the like)
Although you will definately get the diehards throwing up their arms in disgust but this is bound to happen if this goes ahead

You may gain some audi and merc and bmw fans, but how many bogan aussies will you lose?

fucking tons

and when the fad of racing againt a falcoon ends and they fuck off, the sport will suffer.

There have been talks of the Toyota Camry joining.

LOL at cockrane slowly weeding out aussie tracks and now introducing superior makes come 2017 the v8's will end up being a asian pacific competition that mirrors the DTM/btcc championships of europe.
Then i guess there will be more focus on the second tier holden and ford racing as a support catergory.

Doesn't surprise me really since oz has started making good coin in the last decade and there are growing GT fields every year

V8s as a sport is allready falling over (When if ever will we see it back here in WA)
Surely not everyone that follows V8SCC is a BOGAN this will eventually spread if Tanders comment about (OTHER TRACKS) around Aus are in a worse state than Barbagallo Raceway are true
You have to ask yourself why are they allready racing in other countries??
Surely not just so we can show the rest of the world what we can do
They are definately looking to entice other Big sponsors, Drivers with the funds to race their own cars to the fold
As we all know its not necesarilly the best driver that gets a seat for at least a full season
Its about money and publicity through sponsorship without this there will be no V8s at all

Best thing that could happen, can't see why you would lose fans, should only bring some non- Falcadore people to the sport.

Doubt they lose many , die hards will still roll up to see ford or holden beat them euro shitters .

Should get to a event and see how dedicated the " Bogans " are

Im not really a V8 Supercar fan, but seeing them live in Melbourne last year was pretty good, when they rip past you at full noise, it sounds awesome,as does them gearing down.

does anyone have the details of this 2012 regulation overhaul that they're talking about?

I miss the pre-93 ATCC, hopefully this is the first step back to seeing more than just Fords and Holdens competing. I would love to see a Super GT R35.

One comment on that article raises a good point:

I guess they had to change the regulations since the Falcon is no longer going to be locally constructed from 2012, which would have limited the field to Holdens only.

I guess they really don't have a choice but to change the rules.

Thats still not confirmed though is it?

Like they had discussed going to global platform, but it wasnt set in stone.

Hyundai has also been linked to the sport when the new CoF rules come into force, repeatedly refusing to either confirm or deny any interest in going racing.

The trev reaction to a Hyundai at bathurst will be golden.

I can see a "pack of arseholes" speech again..

why don't they just make it something like group A class and have a good mix of everything in it, like it use to be, cosworth, gt-R, m3 ect, at present we could have C63, M3, IS-F, HSV GTS, FPV GT, Audi RS4, GT-R, maybe chuck in
EVO Xs and STis, would be the best racing championship ever

Agreed,

Holden and Ford are screwed. :boink:

Looking forward to this muchly if it goes ahead.
I don't know if its the no fuel stops in F1, but its seeming to formal?... boring.. I still love it and hang out for each and every gran prix...
But with the v8's its more entertaining to see them wrestle around the track, it's more aggressive. I just can't bring myself to become a die hard fan of holden and ford, but with the addition of euro's should become entertaining..
I wish they could make an allowance for rotors though... (good ol' days).. i like seeing the 20b rx8's choppin' up in the US series.

They will all use the same engines and suspention etc etc. So it will only be the body shape thats different. I doubt they will be any differance in performance between manufacturers like it is now.
