Hey guys,
Had a look and couldnt find anything. My mate has a 00 model WRX and it has been making a wierd tapping noise from the front drivers side. Not 100% sure what it is but i thought it may be a loose screw as it only does it after he moves from a stationary position and accelerates off.
Any ideas what it may be? Any info will be appreciated.
Mick.

I got this sound too and was just about to make a thread about it. On mine its coming from the rear driver side wheel and it does get faster as speed increases. Checked for nails and rocks but can't see anything.
It's really annoying with the window down when you drive next to another car or a wall.

jack your car up on appropriate corner remove wheel and check for rocks, nuts and nails or anything that could make a noise, i can probably arrange a free punture repair if need be

had the same thing on my ute, drive along freeway next to wall and would be noisy as fuck, checked the driver side front tyre, nothing. didnt think much of it, when i was on hoist the screw was in passenger side lol. so check all your tyres, more then likely coming from opposite side aswell

ok so we took the wheel off and cleaned all around and made sure no rocks or stones. Put the wheel back on went for a drive and still the noise was there. It sounds like its near the dash?
Any ideas?

Something to do with the speedo?

Noisy or worn belt, warped disc but that would be more of a scraping sound to squeal under light braking.
does it do it free reving?
Coasting out of gear down hill?
IN gear coasting down hill?
only in gear 1st gear taking off? or continues through all gears?.
Getting the answer to those questions should narrow it down a little, being awd id first check front cv joints and boots if you still cant pick it.

They're electronic, not cable driven.

Check the CV boots for splits, check the shafts for anything that could be touching them or hanging off them.
