My folks have a MY02 2002 Impreza RS automatic of doom

They have been having an issue with the engine light coming on and car becoming sluggish.

Took the car to Allstar 3 times and they could not find a code, said the engine light has to be displayed in order to get a code.. they couldnt fault the car.

Got it into work and smashed it on the Snap-on diagnostic machine and it spat out 3 codes... Air Intake temp, Map Sensor & Oxy Sensor.

For the car to loose power and become sluggish, I have gone with replacing the Map sensor.. no big deal as a S/H one I sourced on the cheap.

Put the sensor in, no engine light.. Folks said the car was better.

The engine light came on 3 times today, each time the car becomes sluggish.

I dont know subaru's so it has me fucked, how do subi's react when a code gets spitted out? regardless what the problem do they just go into limp mode?

I wouldnt of thought an oxy sensor would of caused this issue.

map sensor works in conjuction with air intake temp to determine air flow and density.

try replacing that too.

That model Subaru goes into limp when it shows a check engine light.. thats why it gets sluggish, as it will limit revs and timing whilst its in limp mode.

Go the oxy sensor and see how you go, as that'll be cheap too.

If that fails, air intake temp refers to inlet air temp sensor. If I recall, they are built into the air-box on that model. Not sure how cheap that would be.

Check theres no leaks between airbox and throttle body as unmetered air can cause problems...
