This is my brother's car, he parked at about a month ago (FIFO worker) running fine. He goes to start it yesterday, cranked slowly, then clicking, flat battery, so he tried jump starting it and it still just cranks.
Today I had a look at it, put a new battery in, same thing, just cranks as I expected. check fuel, plugs were black, wasn't 100% but didn't go any further once I saw there was no spark. checked spark - no spark, there is no power at the coils, and no power at the main connector on the rocker cover where it splits to the individual coils. I attempted to check the crank/cam angle sensor (whichever one is the 3 wire at the back of the engine) but since it's in a pingpingpingping of a spot it's hard to backprobe the connector properly, but I got .3v with ign on on one of the outer pins, and .6v when cranking, and earth on the middle. wasn't getting anything on the other wire (but again it could be due to it being a pingpingpingping to measure).
Every engine related fuse and relay in the engine bay is ok, though there is no power at the 2 injector fuses with ign on, wasn't sure if they should have had power or not..
at this point I had ran out of ideas, as I had no wiring diagram or anything, and never worked on these before, the 'system check' in the dash says ok, so I checked a few earths in the engine bay, they were ok.
He bought it already built, supposedly a 383 stroker ls1 built by a mech at some engine shop in Malaga, LS2 electronic throttle body, MSD coils, and I guess a mafless tune since there is no MAF.
What will happen if the PCM is fucked, just crank and not fire (may have fried it when jump starting)?
Got a wiring diagram now and know how to get the displays up on the dash, so that should tell me if the crank/cam angle sensors are doing anything when I check it out again tomorrow.
Any other ideas?
cheers
