ok getting a quick opinion
12" sub in my ss
when the bass gets to around top volume
from drivers seat sounds like boot rattle
open the boot and its coming from sub
you put your hand on the plastic cover or on the rubber ring around it and it goes away
but if you touch the edge of the plastic it makes a worse noise?
any suggestions?

Sounds like you have broken the glue around the base of the cone its a cheap fix at any audio shop.
Or you are pushing the coil too hard and its causing distortion.

I did this recently with the 15" I got from mxracer on here.. great little sub but I blew the dust cap glue to bits, yet to fix.. I thought it was blown for sure, makes a horrid rattle :P

Turn the gain on the subwoofer amp down to min, turn the head unit up to a decent volume where the car speakers can handle it & don’t distort.
From there, turn up subwoofers amp gain until that bad sound becomes audible. Back it off a little bit.
If the bass is minimal at that gain setting, you have fucked your voice coil. Buy a new woofer and tune it properly next time. If the bass is awesome, your done.

Hey Mate,
Can be a whole range of things, but most likely you are over driving the sub-woofer at higher volumes.
Feel free to drop by the workshop and we'll check it out for you.

ok just had a look at the amp today at work
couldnt see a gain setting
wether that is the high pass filter or low pass filter
but i turned the level down a little bit but its still there
me and my mate had a look and its as if the plactic cover has come loose abit
might pull the sub out the box tomorow and just have a quick look at the glue
ill try make a video tomorow and see how it comes out if you can here it
but i have no time to pop into an audio shop cause i work 8 till 530

Ok guys took the sub out the box after messing with the amp and what happened is the spider web in the middle has come loose a little bit from the glue. So basically gonna cost $30 to reglue it down. Fucking good seeming the sub was free haha

sounds like you were clipping a little (when sinusoidal waveform square's at the peaks)
after you repair the sub check your levels.
turn the gain on your amp down, set head unit volume to 3/4 and any bass dbms's to 0 then adjust amp output gain until just before distortion.
