Oil advice for S15

after what people are using for engine oil in there S15

mate has a S15 with 105,000km
FMIC
running about 1-1.2bar boost on stock turbo
exhaust
screamer
tuned etc

has the normal rattle and wants to minimise it.

engine is pretty much like new as Cypher have serviced the car and modded it since day one. compression, tune, etc are all fine...just rattles like hell and annoys him

had oil put in a while back and was quietish for 5000km.....
had a service couple weeks ago and rattles loud after being quietish for all of 100km

what seems to be a good brand, grade etc?

I used Motul 4100 Turbolight 10w40 in my SR, couldn't fault it!

Rattle could be VCT? Its apparently quite common

VCT rattle, learn to live with it or get new VCT gear, exxy but your only option other than going for S13 cams and getting rid of VCT all together.

He owns a SR20, its meant to sound agricultural. Otherwise a slightly thicker oil 15W60 should help

just get some cams and cam gears to get rid of rattle :P
as stated about Motul 4100 Turbolight 10w40 is good stuff!

Always used castrol edge 5w30 in my sr20's.

i did an oil change for my mate this saturday just past.

after a mix up with oil filters as he has apparantly a rare type one not the one listed against what his car should have, some engine flush, we ended up going with Valvoline VR1 Racing 10W 40 after a big recommendation on the Valvoline 10W 40 from a few people.

so far idles nice and quiet.......see how long it lasts tho

Repco Morley stocked it last time I bought some (Motul 300V). Auto one Wanneroo is another place.
