hey guys,
i've heard this thing where if i install a tbe and a fmic on my 02 wrx it could increase boost, therefore i may need a fuel cut defender. i dont really believe this but im just looking for a bit of truth. will this happen
cheers

nope MY02 WRX's should be good for about 22 psi, smash some boost in. 207s are cheap :)

ok sweet. cheers dude :)
wont be modding too hard just yet but im sure that day will come :P
LOL Tristan!
Here's my advice.. exhaust and reflash are the first 2 mods you do.. if you put an exhaust on without a tune, you won't make any extra power as the ECU in GD WRX's is clever and knows that you've put an exhaust on.. so it dumps in more fuel.
Verso reflash from All-Star Garage is the gold standard for ECU tweaks on Subaru's, its not expensive compared to a standalone ECU and its definitely worthwhile for making power.
Don't mess around with fuel cut defenders, the fuel cut is there for a reason! If you like to pop motors, by all means, go ahead.

and get onto pwerth-wrx and use the search function. covered heaps.
22psi, you can do it.

cheers for that. i did have it planned to get the Verso from Allstar but did want to get the basic / minor mods out of the way first (TBE, FMIC and CAI). im not looking for BIG power at the moment and probably wont be for a little while (other plans / commitments). would it still be worth doing those minor mods with out the verso tune or will the ECU get all angry? lol
DO NOT do those mods without ECU. Simple as that.
The ECU may not get angry but the engine might, and not in a good way.
Do it all at once.. intake, ECU and exhaust. Its only then the hourly rate for dyno time to get your ECU tweaked every time you do a mod, rather than paying the full Verso cost as you will the first time.
P.S. don't do a FMIC unless you need it.. i.e. only fit one after changing your turbo.

yes you can do these mods without upseting anything if you keep your boost level low/very close to stock

ok cool. i might take it back to the drawing board then. was planning to just cool the car up for a bit but might just finish up my exhaust then leave it for now (only cat-back atm) until i can get a more solid idea on what i'm actually going to do.
cheers for the advice. appreciated :)

yeh boost is deffs staying where it is. wont be installing any sort of boost controller
if you do those mods now just make sure you have a boost gauge fitted.
nothing wrong with fitting boost control now if that what you want to do, just dont raise boost until its tuned.

i got the boost gauge showing around 13psi atm (haven't done anything so i'm assuming thats stock?). would that be too high?
from memory thats fine, i wouldnt want to see anymore than that to be ultra safe - boost/fuel cut will help protect the motor anyway but best not to rely on that so keep the boost down.
