Ok i have had a look and no thread answer my question

Im buying a guard rolling tool and i want to know how would i do it my self

From what i have read i will need to use a heat gun to stop the paint from cracking

Is there any special technique or is it was simple as heating up the paint then running the roller inside the guard untill i get the desired effect ?

Thanks for your time

Marti

take it slowly and push it out little bit by little bit otherwise you just end up denting the crap out of them.
the paint may crack anyway but a heat gun will help

Not sure if this is the right thread to post on but...
Just wondering if anyone has roll guards where there is a V like cut on the underside?
Cheers

from what i have read you have to hammer the inner lining flat against the outer guard. you will need to use a rubber or plastic faced hammer as to not damage the guard

scaff tube between wheel and guard point it up into the inner guard and get a mate to roll your forwards or backwards works every time

i have tried that but theres only so far you can go, im planning on lipping the guard aswell, so ill see how much of a mess i make of my guards ha ha

Guard rollers are only good for very thin guards, otherwise you get warping.. you need to do it very slowly if you want to prevent that from happening. If you have thick guards, forget it.

Best way to do it is with a hammer and dolly.. but you need to have skills to get it right.

If you don't give a shit about warping, just go for it :D

if your interior is out, look inside the cabin and behind each door you can see the cavity above the wheel tub. if you fill that with expanding foam, you wont get the inevitable dent in the top of your fender when you over roll it.

also your rear quarters will be a lot stronger (less crumpled metal) if you ever do a tank slap while drifting :D

Des @ AutoFX...
he did the FG's front guards on Sunday, gave them some flare too (good), but now i gotta remove some camber to get the flush/poking look again. a pleasant fml :)

Coool I just flicked him an email because said won't do think metal guards due to health.. I'll just check if mine are ok. Does yours have double layer metal to fold ?

nah FG front guards are single.
rears are the same, but 5mm lipped, so are too small to roll or flare :(

I can confirm via 3 places rears on ba/bf ute cannot be rolled. Need a panel beater!

dont be a girl, get a grinder out and cut them off.

if you have a look under the guard thommo there is a brace in the middle which is spot welded to the guard, giving it 2 layers which cant be rolled. you could try to lever them apart and then roll the single bit but your guard will flap a little in the breeze, i know this from experience, but i cut my guards and the support bit off.

Yes I had the grinder in mind just don't want to ruin the paint. Might look at removing brace n rolling

Bf just cut.

Removing the brace is to hard, it longer and theres more welds then there are on a FG.

Drift Marti, did you end up doing yours? How did they go, and are you confident to do mine for the aforementioned cash/beverage combination?
