If your net is slow here in Perth it's more than most likely a comowhore has wrapped itself around a power pole carrying your phone line. That red or green P moniker that is so often found displayed in a commodore's rear window actually stands for Power pole, as in my car will be wrapped around one soon. Less common but still prevalent is the white R33 with the P displayed, same thing you'll find one eventually nestled around a power pole with the head lights shining into the boot.

A little OT, but how do you guys get 600kb/s downloads? I try to download episodes of various TV shows with plenty of seeds and would be lucky to get 200 on the odd occasion..... something im missing?

its all about who you know ^^

my net rarely pulls out anything more than 3 or 4mb on a good day on those speed things, but provided i'm downloading from a local source my torrents can come in around 400 or even 500 kb/s

depends on line quality, distance from exchange etc... not to mention the seeds might not even be that fast themselves

i max out at around 1.3MB/s on a 20Mbit line from iiNet

A stab in the dark, but are you with vivid wireless? If yes, their P2P is throttled so regardless of their 10mbit+ download speeds you'll still only get 200k max with torrents.

Funny i'm with vivid and my torrents get as high as 1.2mb/s but right now i'm sitting around 500kb/s.

I've found my net to be a bit temperamental over the last few days...

Speedtest always comes back with similar results - but something is still not quite right. Youtube videos lag, sites can take a notably longer than usual to load or even respond. Could be my router at fault seeing that power cycling it seems to make things better for a few hours before the net is at a crawl again. Whirlpool has mixed threads in the last few days about speed issues though...

On Kingsley Exchange, ~2.5km of copper to my door.

Edit: Played with MTU setting....seems to be alright...for now.

^^ holy shit

is that a business or server connection or do you just live next door to the exchange?

our internet comes from fucking ages away, like 8km+, which is pretty bs considering its inner suburbs. Oh and telstra, in their wiseness, replaced some short stretches of damaged wire with aluminium in the 80s, so our line has the beastliest attenuation and drops regularly.

mine is fine tooalthough mine says iinet and i'm with westnet lolThat's probably something to do with the fact that iiNet owns Westnet.

Also, @Turbo4L .... what the red everloving fuck, are you SITTING on the exchange with a cat6 cable jammed up your arse?!

Fibre connection no doubt seeing its Amcom.

Makes me wonder if the new apartments appearing on St George's Tce would have access to it or not?
