Wow! So many formats/modes! Very imprsessed so far, can spend hours achieving nothing! Burrrrnout! It has it's faults like most things, but I'm turning a blind eye. Although I only managed to squeeze in a few hours tonight, loving the G27 racing wheel! As mentioned, takes some getting used to! Started to get the hang of drifting on the G27, needs either a real handbrake or allocated button (on the gear lever) relocated to the wheel. Scandinavian flick looks cool but too hard to connect all corners! Jebus!

Havnt searched yet, but anybody seen a logitech wheel modded for a real handbrake? I've seen a mercury switch being used before, might take that road.

Cbf reading through all of this, but im just gonna say, this is one of the worse sim racing games I've played. Played it for a few hours at a mates, got sick of it very fast. The graphics are shit, looks like they couldn't be fucked with shadows and just left them in epic low resolution, the smoke/dirt getting flicked off the rear tyres looks crap, the rain is on a continious loop (This is on my mates brand new 3D TV, not in 3D though). The game play feels wrong, he doesn't have a wheel, but with the controller, with any car, using 1/4th of the trigger = brakes lock up and send you into a wall, random tank slapping at extremely low speeds, being able to ram cars and nothing happens, no damage(??), if you use the brake hard enough and accelerate straight after braking, the car goes into 'cruise control'(??). Heck, even in some of the 'information' bits, the english was in Engrish. Not to mention how slow the loading times are, even to just go back to the main menu.

I know there is A LOT more crap, but at 5 30am, I cant think of it off the top of my head.

It's asif they just couldn't be fucked with the game anymore and said, 'meh, fuckit, it'll sell, just release it with glitches'

I'm very dissapointed, the hype for this game was huge and offcourse, it's a huge let down. I'll be sticking with my Forza3, seems asif you're engaged in FM3 unlike GT5.

FM3 is incredible and i do preffer there level classing systems as you upgrade cars...sadly my hutchi with 70k spent on it is getting a little bit to good for the sunday cup.
but i belive for the hardcore racing fans who like to be able to adjust / tune every feature of there car this is probably the way to go.

i have yet to see an Aristo, Z31 or FC ... correct me if they exist

played for mabe 1.5 hours last night i did my std licence and some special events (bulk $$$$$), then got 2 races in my hutchi b4 i had to head out.

I too am noticing alot of cars sounding wrong. My M3 sounds like a kitchen appliance. Nothing V8 about it at all, it is very tinny and high pitched. Even my GTR sounds wrong, not like any RB I've heard. As for the controller issues, fairly sure it was meant to be played with a wheel and does take a lot of finesse with a controller.

I'm not nearly as impresses as I hoped I would be, but I'm not returning it just yet. Cant really compare it to Forza as they are both out for different things. Forza is way more fun, though.

Joe - Online racing is a tiny little button in the main menu screen next to A spec events called Open Lobby. What I thought was fucked is there's no option to just invite your friends that I could see. It gives you the room number up top and you're meant to message that to everyone? Or is there an easier way?

Just had a read on PS forums, it seems like the save data lock is in place to stop people hacking the online trophy system and is indicative that GT5 will be receiving DLC content eventually.

Well after reading the last thread I decided I kinda wanted to have a crack at this game. Impatience got the best of me and the Harvey Norman $487 deal sounded too good to be true.

I was a bit bummed out that I would be purchasing this brand new wizardry then playing it on my 5+ year old LG SD plasma, so last night I went and bought a new LG LCD 42", 320Gb PS3, the last copy of GT5 (I couldn't get the bundle as I was buying it all from the electrical franchise save for the game) and a wanky Monster HDMI cable to run it.

Somehow I also managed to talk a mate into selling me his G25 fairly cheap so I'll be taking delivery of that shortly.

Enough of the silly purchase stories though. I completed the B license with the "any holes a goal" motto, cleaning up silver and bronze all over the place and quickly rushing through the license to start earning some money. I chose the MX5 and it seems decent. After competing in one 3-stage cup event and winning the lot I'm satisfied this car will see me through to some big money, moreso now it's got a turbo, intake, exhaust, coilovers etc, haha.

Bring on 2pm, gonna set up shop with some brews and play a few solid hours!

I'm loving my modified EK Civic.. spent bulk coin on it, it CHOPS it up at Deep Forest Raceway!

I'm in no rush to smash through this all at once, I just want to get good at it and immerse myself in all areas of the game.. I'm hoping this game lasts me at least 12 months before I get tired of it!

I think you'll find any graphics issues are as much a result of the limitations of the PS3 hardware as much as anything else... remember there is no doubt a considerable physics engine taking up a lot of the PS3 processing power, and also we are talking about 5 year old hardware now with only 512mb combined system and graphics memory... i personally dont have a problem with the car models or graphics so far considering the above, i'd rather have a decent physics engine and reasonable graphics than cars that look like renders but drive like Mario Kart.... theres no gameplay in that for me

Ive passed all the begineer races in A spec getting gold in each race. That was fun. Now im up to amature and professional, i find finding the right type of cars for each race quite difficult then getting enough money to mod them to make them competitive.

You can back-up your 40gb onto an external HDD plugged into the USB port, before you do the upgrade.

The only upgrade I've performed is a pod filter for my free civic. Bank roll is good, fuck buying cars just yet :D Cheers Brockas for that advice!

Find a 2nd hand G25 for those hating the controller! The difference in experience is like trying to use chopsticks with your feet all while you could just use your hands...

put in 4 hours last night, almost have my IA license. Decided to blow like $170k on an s14 and its such an average car.. good thing is that it can do pretty awesome entries and exit in 4th gear :)

I upgraded mine and my old mans and honestly thought the process couldn't have been easier.

Took me a total of 5 minutes to replace the HDD, then installed the system software from a thumbdrive (started it, walked away, came back 15 minutes later and it was done).

If that's a 'mission' then I would suggest not fucking around with opening up a games console again!

1st car was the FTO, fwd powerhouse!....bought for like $12k and bought turbo kit and upgraded exhaust and intake......handles like a bucket of shit, do epic 'handbrakeys' and does nothing but smokey 'powerskids' out of corners...makes minse meat out of the first few competitions - havent had this much fun since I first played GT :D

Change Stiffness \ camber settings.

Can make it oversteer very quickly.

Have seen aristo \ Stagea

135i = fun and easy to get bulk power from.


for those fishtailing down the straight. If you dont ease on power and your running shit tyres it will fog down the straight.

I'm going to be building my own 'playseat' :) Got a couple of SAAS buckets waiting to go in the SS so I'll be using the stock VX SS "lounge chair" driver's seat as my play seat haha. Not like I need huge bolstering when I won't actually be turning corners.

G27 lacks excite as I don't care for paddle shifting, stick is where it's at, but if one comes up at the right price I'll buy it when I recover from last night's impulse buy. For now the controller will have to make do, just keen to build a tougher rwd car and find a wider circuit to rip skids on :)

Try this

Soften Spring Rates a little in the front, harden in the rear, increse damper front, Decrease rear, Toe in the front tyres toe out the rears.

Do one thing at a time until its a nice balance. Will make it more oversteery the further you go with the settings.

They seem to forget that in real life, 90% of 'big' powerslides end in a lose.

Im playing it on the Driving Force GT wheel at the moment, by chance has anyone played on the g27 g25 and the GT wheel? Tempted to upgrade if theres a dramatic difference in steering response

FFB has been a bit of an issue for G25 in other games also, Never used a G27 but heard they are a big improvement in that area.

May have to give it a go with my G25 bookshelf setup and see how it goes. Was fairly dissapointed when using the hand controller last night, Biggest gripe is how you are forced through easy difficulty, I'm usually in 1st by the end of the first lap against the AI. Not alot of fun.

Agreed, I always go through my garage to find an available car to race with, rather than modding up something outrageous. If I fail hard, then I go out and buy a specific car and chuck a sports exhaust and air filter on it, and maybe some tyres. I see everyone takes the game a little differently then. I have no problems busting out my big dollar GTR and smoking people in some of the races. Means when I stack it for trying to sikkunt it around every corner I can just turn around and still leg it to win. I'm in this for bombed cars not for close racing.

I upgraded mine and my old mans and honestly thought the process couldn't have been easier.

Took me a total of 5 minutes to replace the HDD, then installed the system software from a thumbdrive (started it, walked away, came back 15 minutes later and it was done).

If that's a 'mission' then I would suggest not fucking around with opening up a games console again!

Upgrade part wasnt too bad once I realised that the firmware update needed to be in the exactly spot on file structure or the PS3 cant see it. Was just stressing when It said it couldnt find the update.

The biggest hassle was trying to back up the existing data, only had an 8Gig thumbdrive and 35Gig of save files/music/pics etc and so had to move to laptop in batches.

But then some save files were copy protected so I had to go back and delete everything else that wasnt copy protected one by one so I could fit the back up onto the thumbdrive.



I've barely touched the game though and I was going to bring my machine along tonight so thinking it might be better if someone who is a bit further through the game brings theirs?

Brilliant, I need to make this change on mine. As I only played it for an hour or so last night I just wanted to do some skids not mess about, but I'm used to the go and stop being on the trigger not buttons. Set car up as manual last night and kept holding in what I wanted to be the brake but was the downshift button and then dabbing the brakes which I wanted to be changing gears. Ended up in lots of walls.

Handbrake is located on the goddamn shifter (G27), not cool for drifting in arcade mode, 2K was my finest corner... very poor. Should have enough money in career soon to build a drift car which won't require handbrake. :)

Good news, Did 3 races at nurburgring last night, The first one I won by over a minute and it gave the win to the guy in last:confused: . next two races I kept the gap around 20 seconds and had no problem.

Each week pick a course and a car which you can get from standard dealers and enforce a no mod/hp restriction.Everyone on the forum has a week to get the best lap time which they prove by uploading the replay.

Winner each week scores a car? I am not sure if you can gift credits..but have the winner/spooner of the prior week gift tickets...

I have yet to investigate too much online as I'm out in Harm-adale with the missus this week.. Hopefully you can just set up an open event with a leader board...

Should keep up some continuous competition without lining up online times..

Fanatec wheels are awesome.. but I doubt GT5 supports the clubspec pedals looking at how poor the G27 support is. If you're planning on playing more realistic sims on the PC then going the Fanatec with clubsport pedals would be worth it.
