Never used a controller but I figure simultaneous handbrake + clutch kick. No engine brake during slide then power out sideways.

Need to pull apart my G27 and install a real handbrake... but might sell it in a few weeks...


Do you guys use the handbrake much? I hate it. It's laggy as hell so you can't just press the button to quickly rip the handbrake, you need to hold the button down for a few seconds then it just loops the car out.

GT5 Online Setup Guide

Perform an Internet Connection Test from your PS3.

If your NAT is Type 1 then you're connected to the net directly and all will be sweet.
If your NAT is Type 2 then you should be good. However if you're still having issues try port forwarding (see below).
If your NAT is Type 3 then you will have problems.

Resolution

If you're having issues try these options:

1. Enable UPnP on your router
If your 'Internet Connection Test' listed UPnP as 'Unavailable' then go into your Router settings and make sure UPnP is enabled. If UPnP is enabled correctly then the router and PS3 should work together to automatically forward the correct ports.

2. Put PS3 IP address into DMZ on router.
This requires you to set a static IP for the PS3 and then put that IP address into the De-Militarised Zone (DMZ) of the router.

Don't use wireless connectivity to your router if you can avoid it.

It opens up a whole new can of worms for shit to potentially fuck up.
- Hardware incompatibility issues with PS3 wireless hardware and some router types
- Signal strength issues
- Wireless interference
- Higher latency
etc etc

My mate had all kinds of issues playing online with Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 etc. No amount of port forwarding or router config could fix the dropout issues. Connecting the PS3 to the router via a long Ethernet cable down the hallway completely solved the problem. I suspect there was/is some sort of conflict between his PS3 and the Bigpond modem supplied by Telstra.

Handbrake only engages rear wheels, 4WD enabled you to recover from a 90Degree slide if your skilled enough. :D

All about using the triggers to drop your acceleration through the bend..no brakes. I stuck to the cones and avoiding drifting up the bank thus taking more time..

Gold that one last night too (with the G25 :p) That car's steered more with the throttle than the wheel. In the end I passed the last car with about half a lap left. Seemed a little difficult for a 'medium' level challenge.

Chevelle SS 454 + blower + exhaust/clutch/few other mods = powerskid machine. Busted out a mad drift session on Laguna, fucking wish I'd saved it. Painting 3rd down the main straight, into 1st corner and just sat sideways fogging.

Is it quicker than the Mazda 787B? Thats the absolute fastest thing I've come across in the game so far.

I don't think the Veyron is that fast, I think I'll do a time trial in it and another car this afternoon to see just how much faster it is. Any time it makes up on the straights it loses by not stopping (ever) and understeering hard through corners. Stuff you could fix with mods no doubt but I think there are better optioned cars out there..

I found the Cusco Advan STI yesterday, almost bought it just to gloat. Then didn't.

Did the Nascar Beginner and Intermediate, Go Kart Beginner and Intermediate, and started doing the AMG event.. got enough credits to buy a whack of cars to help finish off the Beginner and Amateur cups. Top Gear races are fucking frustrating though!!

I did the Supercar cup in the Professional series with my Mazda 787B Stealth Car and pwned everyone.. that wasn't fun but very efficient.

Got a mini cooper, mild mods and removed all the weight out of it. Put it as low as it will go and suspension as stiff as possible. Its a go kart that destroys everything in those races.

No shit, you miss one gear change in the Kombi, and you're out of the race... And the lotus in intermediate snaps to oversteer really quick... I keep tagging the other cars coming into the first corner lol!

I am very impressed with the game, although the default blue racing lines gave me the shits...
I don't think the 'no wheels on standard cars' thing is a big deal either, considering now most of my 'favorite' cars are all premium anyway.

Just a shame theres no brake upgrades. Can't help but feel that they didn't include nearly enough stuff from GT4.

For cash, try the Lambo challenge in the Professional series. 3 laps, $24k. They're fast laps too. EASY money, and you can do it over and over again.

my R33 GTR went from 520 up to 560ish HP after a rebuild.

but yeah, i compare the price of new vs. used...
ie. new R34 GTR is about 70k? seen used ones from 35-58k.

Ahhh well played... Yeah that was a serious fail on my part. My underpowered 65 Alfa killed all the bigger cars in a couple of other events though with some mods so it all evens out. I also had a look at some of my gifted cars and two I looked at are about 70-90k ea.. :)

Try heating the tyres up. Most of my cars won't peel race soft tyres straight away unless you coax them at the apex. If you whip a few donuts they get so hot you can't turn a corner under ZERO throttle without looping out

Yep, definitely... For some cars, it is significantly less to buy second hand and rebuild. Done exactly that with my 32R Vsp.

With the Mini's however, there was like a $10k price difference between the new and used, and the new one had more power / upspec etc. Cheaper than buying used and rebuilding...

So - is the Chevelle 454 the best car to buy for the American classic / muscle car races?

What car did you guys use in the rally challenge?

Think it has to be less than 245hp with dirt tyres.
Was lookin at Evo's and wrx's but they all have 276...

I used the Lancia Delta HF (bought new). Few little mods to get it to 245hp and won easily.

Struggling with the next level though with a Subaru 22B with max allowed HP. Keep losing by .4 to .5 a second.

The last Top Gear challenge is easy though compared to the Lotus one. Gold in the first attempt. Just be aware of the other vehicles going through the cross-overs.

P.S. for guys using the controllers as opposed to a wheel, if you want to get GOOD at using them, the best practice is the NASCAR intermediate special events... do them over and over and over and over, and you’ll learn insane control with the sticks.

What exactly do these fixes include? Mechanical damage will be added to the existing cosmetic damage, the "blocky shadows" will be resolved, online functionality will be increased and the ability to disable the HUD is mentioned as a possible option.

Time trials was the best feature of their past games, I dunno why the don't add more "time trial features" (whatever they maybe) and put more emphasis on this feature...and perhaps more "TIME ATTACK" vehicles from around the world would be nice :D

Do the Loeb rally challenge, get GOLD in all = Loeb's rally car. (This was actually quite easy, won most gold's with a second to spare usually) That absolutely smashes the opposition for intermed. (Won by about 4mins for the event)

Then mod it to 440 hp or so for the expert rally, again smashes them all. (Won by about 2mins for the event)

For the noob one, you can use the 84' Bluebird rally car you win, or I just bought a used 3000GT Non turbo, weight reduction to 1.4 tonnes and made it 242hp. = Won event pretty easily cause its 4wd.

Kazunori Yamauchi has been fielding questions from fans on Twitter over the past few hours. The tweets are in Japanese, but with a little help from Google and medhi_san, we can get a pretty good idea of what he’s talking about. Here’s the highlights:

* Flexible camera angles and “dynamic and wide-area lighting needs” are to blame for the sometimes blocky shadows. Yamauchi admits they are a problem and wants to improve them.
* Yamauchi appears to consider the possibility of removing the in-game HUD (heads-up-display features) at some point in the future.
* To unlock the Red Bull X1, you’ll need to complete the “Sebastian Vettel Challenge”, which appears at Level 30.
* Online “lounge” functionality and other features will be added “one by one”.
* Polyphony Digital continues to work on fully supporting the Logitech G25 and G27, though Yamauchi admits he would like a “new steering device soon”…
* Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”.
* As you may know, many players noticed that GT5’s face-tracking functionality only worked in Arcade mode. According to Yamauchi, it’s not available in GT mode due to memory issues with the PS3.
* In-game rewards (such as the monetary prize in GT5 Prologue) for your performance in online events is something Polyphony Digital is considering, and may be implemented in a future update.
* Gran Turismo 5’s official, 2-disc sound-track will be released soon.
* Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.
* The YouTube replay upload feature had to be pulled from the final version of the game because it took a very long time to render and it consumed too much memory. Yamauchi is still considering it, however.

Ok this is a strange issue thats pissing me off

When i open GT5 it hangs on the GT5 logo forever until an "unable to connect to server message appears"

Then again waiting for main screen and then again after pressing GT Mode

Figure its a network issue, do the network test and get NAT 3 which is apparently bad...

Forwarded all said reports as per google links on both the Thomson Router that bigpond sent out and a super expensive Juniper SSG20... both give same result

Found an old Dlink DSL504T in the shed and plugged that in and set the PS3 IP to DMZ... connection test gives NAT 2 and an upload/download result... i think woohoo... open then game and the same hang and "unable to connect to server" messages

Ok this is a strange issue thats pissing me off

When i open GT5 it hangs on the GT5 logo forever until an "unable to connect to server message appears"

Then again waiting for main screen and then again after pressing GT Mode

Figure its a network issue, do the network test and get NAT 3 which is apparently bad...

Forwarded all said reports as per google links on both the Thomson Router that bigpond sent out and a super expensive Juniper SSG20... both give same result

Found an old Dlink DSL504T in the shed and plugged that in and set the PS3 IP to DMZ... connection test gives NAT 2 and an upload/download result... i think woohoo... open then game and the same hang and "unable to connect to server" messages

Kept getting the same thing myself, I updated the time on the PS3 in the Settings> Date and Time> Then updated it through the net, seem to have fixed the prolem. Try that see if it works for you.

It became easier when I set TC to 7. I was sliding too much in final corner

I doubt thats done with a wheel.

I find drifting is way too hard with the wheel as you need to go from lock to lock too quickly, and the only way you can do that is with the controller.

possibly, i would have thought its the other way around, with the controller you can go from lock to lock too violently and sends the car into a spin. either way the driver in that video must have had A LOT of practice.

Is there no way to adjust the response of the wheel like a racing car for instance where you hardly have to turn the wheel to get around a corner?

With a controller, controlling the smallest of oversteer is effortless...you can get away with driving like a ''reckless hoon'' - i find that with my G25 (unless other steering wheel are different?) once my car goes sideways i spin out/undeersteer into a wall.......i find that with a controller your LEFT/RIGHT movement is much faster and with a wheel I'm like sloth up a tree.

I've actually used the controller more than G25 so far..

Try turning up the sensitivity on your wheel so it doesnt have the full 900 degree rotation. I found this helped me alot when I was using mine.

Just gave B spec a shot. Was boring using slow shitter cars, so I got him to re-do the 1st race using a bombed Murcie and just kept pushing him to go faster. Final lap he was drifting like a champ!
