Hey guys, looking into having a little play with some stuff just at home. Wondering what equipment you guys would reccomend for a beginner?
I've done a shit load of googling etc and so far im fairly set on some CDJ400's.
Have found a pair with a Numark DXM06 Mixer. Would this suit someone jus starting out?
Not looking for povo spec stuff but then again not wanting to break my bank!
Probly dont really want to spend over 1k on mixer/decks.
Any info/recommendations would be really helpful.
Cheers, Steve
thats the exact set up i use to have and it was awsome to learn on and bang for buck!
Sounds good to me. Cant go wrong with the pioneer gear. If you can try get a djm 400 as well and that would be the perfect beginner setup.
Remember you'll need headfones $200-$300
Speakers you can go cheap on these but id spend around $900 for some KRK's
Then i'd look at getting something like serato, you can carry all your songs on your laptop and play them out without having to burn and change cd's constantly. $850ish i think.

CDJ400's with any basic 2 channel mixer would be fine to start out with. Keep an eye out in the for sale section on Teknoscape they come up for sale all the time. If you want something cheaper look into the Numark Omnicontrol, Native Instruments Kontrol S4 or the like, you can run these with Serato or Traktor on your PC or Laptop.

CDJ400's are fucking amazing and I can't recommend them enough, I still prefer them over 1000's and 900's. Can't go wrong with pioneer!

Stick with Pioneer for Cd players & Mixers they are the industry standard for a reason, Allen & heath mixers are also very good if you come across one in your price range.
If your keen a good set of headphones I have brand new Sennheiser HD25-II Headphones I'm willing to sell for $230, one of the best headphones around. I kept them as a back up pair but I now hardly have time to play with my decks.

http://www.storedj.com.au/products/SEN-HD25Myself and almost every other DJ I know has a pair of those, I got them off a UK site and ended up working out to be $210 from memory. Not sure what it'd work out to now, this is the site: http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=SEHD25II

behringer
Lol. I don't know about that. Behringer make quality stuff for their price, their motto is to put a lot of their profits back into their products.
I've been using some of their stuff for years, mixers, headphones, monitors especially. If you have a small budget, Behringer might be able to help you out of a couple tight spots (Consider the behringer ddm4000 as a blatant cheaper knock-off of pioneer's djm800, it's still quality but the sound fx rack will NEVER compare to pioneer's). When you've got the cash to play with, it's m5g's, ortofons, 909s and ecstacy.
Generally:
-Pioneer for CDJs. Dont bother with the awesome looking Technics ones. IF you're going for CDJs, dont chooose anything other than Pioneer or you WILL regret it.
-Technics for vinyl turntables. Industry standard. Enough said.
-Pioneer / numark (dxm06/09) / Behringer (VMX300 for instance) for Mixers, personally I prefer pioneer (my djm800 and djm909 are the best mixers I have ever used)
-Headphones go either Sennies or Technics. Can't go wrong. OR you could purchase the same BEHRINGER HPS5000 heaphones for $50 that I used to have (from Music Park, ozzie park) and have them compare to sennies. No shit. Go listen to them for yourself.
Speakers are completely dependant on how much money you want to spend and what application you need them for. For instance, BEHRINGER TRUTHS make EXCELLENT studio monitors, but definitely not for a bangin thrash up party.
But out of every set you have stated in this thread, youll have the most fun with the cdj400s and the dxm06.
I would get this setup!!!

yea agree with MMM this set up is awsome for the price , and for the moment dont worry about serato or traktor , iv used it before both of them and still prefer cds to this day
to go against the grain. go new school. Digital is cheaper, more versatile, and incorporates a number of features that make it easier for you to get started until you learn the basics. MP3's are mostly free. no need to buy music and you dont need to lug heaps of gear around. Laptop, controller and away you go.

4 decks... no problems. dont need to buy another $1000+ worth of gear just press a button and you have 4 decks instead of 2 ;)

I actually gave my technics headphones away, wasn't too happy with how they sat on my head, now have 3 pairs of HDJ1000 and a HDJ2000. the HDJ2000 is thee best cans i have ever used.
What ever you do, make sure you go with vinyl or cd players if you may want to start club/bar DJ-ing in the future. hell even if you want to go over to a mates house and mix, controller'isim is all well and good but not really a good way to start.
Come over for a mix if you want bro, i have vinyl/cd/dvd players and dvs software; so you can see how you want to start out

Worth it to spend a bit of extra $$ as Pioneer gear holds its value extremely well.
If you're beginning DJ'ing I strongly recommend not going with any type of software (Serato or Traktor etc..) but to train your ears instead. Once you get the basics down pat using your ears, learning new stuff is dead easy. New concepts just sort of flow and make sense.
Don't know if you've stumbled across him yet, but there is a guy on YouTube by the name 'ellaskins'. He has a load of video tutorials for beginner DJ's. Well explained and I highly recommend!
Hope that helps!
