I'll be down there in my Golf to provide the Hatchback Ying to the XR5 Yang ;)

I believe I've scored a brief spot as some ballast in an EVO X.
Looking forward to witnessing the course in the hands of Alister Mcrae!

Will be heading down there soon.

Hoping to keep gearbox/clutch/centre diff together this time.

We had to pull out at the last minute.

How did it go?

Bigger turnout than the first one and some very quick cars about. I bailed around 8:30 though so not too sure how it finished up.

Will have some pics up later

Franz won. Surprise!

Really nice event. Very little waiting around between runs as the cars are let go at 30 second intervals. You do occasionally get baulked by the car in front (from either an 'off' or mechanical problem) but the final stages times are based on your best 3 from 4 runs.

Great event, will enter again.

Results =
Twilight Results for Round 2 - Dec 16th (http://japanesewholesale.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Dec-16-results1.pdf)

My car ran ok, but wasn't too happy with it though.
My tyres(Toyo R888's) were as slippery as buggery & my brakes weren't as strong as they used to be.

with these events, is it worth using R-comps (tyre temperature?) or stick with grippy street tyres like R1Rs etc that offer better cold grip?

I found my tyres weren't warm enough. But I don't know what anyone else uesd.
I don't know how old mine were either as I only picked them up yesterday.

I can't believe you're asking this Matt!

lol Franz, im asking because around barbs, the warm up lap on the Pirellis is interesting, then the tyres still sketchy on the 1st flying lap, by the 2nd lap they are awesome :)

lol Franz, im asking because around barbs, the warm up lap on the Pirellis is interesting, then the tyres still sketchy on the 1st flying lap, by the 2nd lap they are awesome :)

And what did I say about the Pirelli's last time...

Some R comps are better suited/designed than others to certain disciplines. Bridgestone RE55's, Yokohama A048's etc are great but need some heat to be at their best - ie great for the track. Dunlop DZ03G's, Yokohama A050's etc are great for sprints, hillclimbs, tarmac rally etc because they don't require as much heat to be at their best. They also don't like being overheated which is generally why they don't last on the circuit.

Don't fall into the misconception that a good street tyre is better than an R comp - they aren't (*with the exception of pure standing water and completely atrocious conditions). Even a track R comp (RE55, A048) when cold will perform better than a great street tyre at their ideal temp. What people forget is that when they have "r comps" on, they automatically expect more from the tyre and hence push the limits from the very first corner. Try and push the same (seriously push and not just think you are) with a good streeter and I bet you'll find the street tyre slower.

....either take in the above Matt or just look at what just about everybody runs at the next twilight sprint! ;)
