Dont see it working as you have to machine out VE rims to suit earlier ones, so surely earlier model rims the center hub dealy would be too big?
Theres some VE stockies on Gumtree for like $200 or something pretty sure.

the hub centre being bigger wont be an issue, whether the 14mm stud fits through the hole designed for a 12mm stud will be the issue if any.

some vy rims do fit on ve's. i use vy sv8 rims for my 17" drag radials.

as Tre-Cool said, VY SV8 rims fit but because the VY rims have a bigger centre hub you should use hub rings otherwise the weight of the car is on the 5studs

Go to a tyre shop. they'll have shitloads of hub locators/hub rings, just chuck a set on before you put the wheels on.

That's the problem right there - 14mm studs (VE) compared to 12mm holes in the wheels.

That's the problem right there - 14mm studs (VE) compared to 12mm holes in the wheels. The VY SV8 rims went on fine on my SSV without changing my studs...the stud holes on the rims are bigger than 12mm just the rims hub hole is made exact for the hub for the VY which is 3mm (i think) bigger than the VE
like i said...VY SV8 rims clear SSV stock brakes and fit without changes. ideally a hug ring to make them sit proper and not just all the weight on the 5studs.
they are the same rims that Tre-Cool has now as i and chipmaster used them on our cars at the drags a few years ago.

Never doubted that mate, there are the odd few wheels out there that will fit VE's, but not very many.
Come to think of it, there was a black VE SSV ute in a burnout comp some time back, that used VY SS wheels for skids. Not sure if they were modified or not.

if you need to run pre-ve rims, i wouldnt stress to much about the hub rings. there primarily used to locate the mags centrally not for any load bearing.
