View Full Version : Brake Painting

I'd like to have my front Brembo's restored to their former glory as they're looking pretty dull & faded.

Can anyone recommend an individual/business specialising in brake painting? I need the calipers prepped, re-painted in the original Brembo red with the Brembo logo silhouette'd(?) in white down the side. I would attempt it myself, but I want them to come up perfectly, so I wont.

Preferably EOR.

Cheers!

take your time, prep it very thoroughly and you can spray paint it with the VHT high temp paint if you're good. These were my old brakes sprayed up black/red with a vinyl applied to it afterwards.

Can't someone like cic coatings place do them and you apply a vinyl like mike has ?

Tocchi

CIC can do them. but its a tad more pricey - as it requires a full overhaul of the brakes to do it... which in a way, is a good thing :)

Hey? You're SOR pingpingpingping.

I'm with Tocchi, CIC for colour & have them rebuilt whilst off the car. They've done quite a bit of trackwork from previous owner, so can only be a good thing!

I'm going to give CIC a call in regards to doing my calipers when I am home next week. Will let post up the outcome of said discussion.

Awesome quality work as always Mike! Although I can physically remove the calipers, prep, and apply red paint to them, I lack the mad skillz to get them looking like you could. I'd never be happy with an attempt I made given I want them to look like they have just come off the production line.

Tokyo Motorsport looks like the go so far.

$450 seems a bit steep, but they come up fucking fantastic. Thanks for the link VRX!

SOR?! How fucking dare you.

I gave CIC a ring this arvo, they will coat the calipers for a fair bit less than Tokyo Motorsports (especially since I'm about to get a heap of stuff ceramic coated by them) but they use a red that's apparently not all that close to the original Brembo red. I'm not too keen until I see it in person.

if CIC will do it for less that tokyo i might use them as i dont want brembo red but just a satin/matte black just like my APs were when new.

just gotta find time to put it on stands, get brake line clamps and remove the calipers :S

Likewise, + figure out when I can have the car off the road for a week (unsure on CIC turnaround, but Tokyo want 5 business days).

CIC said $300 to prep & coat - you supply completely gutted calipers, cleaned of all remaining fluid etc.

thommo

either way thats alot of coin for a paint job, spend $30 on a can if it turns out shit go spend your $3-400 and you would have lost a few hours not a week off the road

Agreed.

EXCESSV and I should pool our money; could buy paint, beers, bitches, etc and have a group painting sesh at Mike's house with change left over from avoiding CIC & Tokyo Motorsports.

Could be onto something there Thommo.

Beers and bitches just wouldn't work, sure we would have a great time but the next day my brakes would still look like anoos.

Do it your self.

I repainted my brembos with 3 cans of VHT Brake Paint for front and rears
1 can of hight temp primer

all you need is a mouse sander from Bunning $50? (small electric sander)

make sure the surface are even - prep are important.
shit prep shit turn out.
Wash them and let them dry
put a primer on
Paint about 3 - 4layers (wait about 1-2 hours before each layer)

finish in a day dry the day after

DO NOT clear coat them (high temp clear coat can make ur brake turn yellowish)

and buy the high temp sticker from ebay for $10 bucks (make sure you got the right size)

total cost if i remember about $120 ish

IF YOU ARE LAZY
just get the spray cans
and spray them straight away.. :p

few of my mates did that on their brembo.. (looks good from 5 feet away)
but once close.. u can see the un even painting LOL!

Looking at that photo they didn't mask off the brake bleeder. I would be checking that before putting them on the car and finding you can't bleed them due to the bleeders being full of paint or when you go to loosen them off the paint comes off with them

Jizz-Lebrity

$400; $100 less than Tokyo Motorsports wanted for painting 6 pots.

That looks horrid with the hard line and bleed nipples painted. The calipers themselves look good but shit that's lazy work, especially given the coin spent.

I would cut the paint around the nipple before you bleed them otherwise as stated above, it will take paint off. I took mine out but the brake fluid still eats at the edges when you bleed them. Take the lines off and polish them up mate. They will look better.

Brembos on the fords have hard line painted and as for the nipple you remove it and buff off with wire wheel .

Beat me to it.

I agree a polished hard line looks cool, but factory hard lines are caliper coloured.... not to say I wont strip/polish the lines in the future.

The nipple is a bit of a fail though, I didn't bring it up when I explained how I wanted the brakes to look to Manny, because I naturally expected he would mask it up. Wire brush the outside & twirl a small drill bit around the inside of the nipple by hand and she'll be right.

On another note, the dust seals around the pistons have seen better days. I'll probably pull the brakes off again soon for a fluid/pad/possibly rotor swap and a bit of an overhaul on the calipers.

Looks good yeah, but for $400 I was expecting better TBH, ie: tape over bleed nipple while painting.

Next time I'll definetley be buying paint, beers, bitches etc and get them painted in Stirling :)

Cheers though!

I have a reasonable chance of getting some that are say your age -14 years or +10. Which would you prefer? :p

A hand-twirl of a drill bit and a blade fixed the bleed nipples no worries, they bled up without drama.
