Question: Can you modify your plate to make it smaller so it fits in a certain gap. Even if these means cutting the WA part off the plate?

Guessing not but was wondering.

They've put the price of the Polycarbonate plates up again. I paid $395 for mine, last year and a bit they were $455, now they're $535.

Nope, I JUST got away with bending the sides of my rear plate to fit in the gap on my old FC. Enquired about cutting them and was told to do so at the risk of copping a huge fine.

i'm assuming you mean the front of your legnum? part of compliance should have been some spacers so it sits flush with the front bar.

You're not suppose to modify the plate at all.

If you got stickered, the Examiners wouldn't pass the vehicle.

Yeah i have those, got shiny front mount on the way though and was thinking more flow and more importantly more showing off of shiny intercooler if i could narrow the plate a bit. But oh well.

Can't really relocate to the side either because of the way the sides of the front bar are tapered.

Cos even though we pay stupid money for custom plates, they still remain property of DoT and they class it as vandalism sigh.

I checked all the retarded ways of spelling out my current ones and no one has them. This may or may not be proof that my current plates are so unbelievably shit that no one wants to copy them. But I do rate them over the last set..

i drilled holes in the centre of my plate to raise it up, not legal though.

Surprisingly, fully custom NSW plates are cheaper, I think they're about $230.

But in saying that, they do offer another option with a stupidly cheaper price to start off with but you have to pay a yearly fee for as long as you keep them. It's a bit of a scam.

I got past fine every time, and I have the edges of mine bent to fit in the recesses of my number plate holders.

I've been for some time, seriously considering the pink plates with white writing, and [DERP], or [HERPDERP]

There is bending the plate on the sides and then there is cutting off the top WA part of the plate, not same same

Apparently they are rejecting plates if they are to similar to other plates or you have swapped letters for numbers and it makes them easily to mistake.
My mate has [STOVE] on his car and wanted [ST0VE] for on his bike but they wouldnt let him cos the plates are to similar.

Reprints arent that much Damon. Like $180 for my NTHN SUSS ones after they were torched with the rest of the car. Mind you that was over 2 years ago.

$190 I was told in January this year to get remade when I reported one of my stolen so I could keep it as sold the car and will never use the plates again. :)

Question, I'm guessing once destroyed they can never be re-requested by someone else? Can someone please confirm or deny. Thanks :D

You pay the $500 or whatever and you own the right to those plates, and they give you a set included in that price. They will always be yours unless you sell them, where you sign the right to own & display over to someone else. If they are nicked or damaged and you don't reprint them straight away they are still yours, and no one else can request them.

I didn't have any physical plates when I sold my old ones, just signed the rights to them to the buyer and he reprinted them himself.

But what if I get mine destroyed as I will never use them again and don't see the point in paying to store them and I won't sell them. Just wondering if I get them destroyed does that mean someone else is open to apply for them or that's it they've been used and destroyed never to be seen again?

You could probably cancel them and they'd re-issue them. If they weren't in use and they can sell them again pretty sure they would, but I can't confirm it. Doesn't make sense to not allow it though. Why not just sell them?

Yeah it's not much tho like $16 a year or something stupid. Had to pay it when I went to pick them up out of storage last time I put them back on my ute. Spose I could sell them just couldn't be bothered with the hassle of it all really. Where would you advertise them? Gumtree?

I reckon all possible combos with number substitution are already taken by now, so many shit imitations around of plates that were once unique/creative.

Very surprised nobody here has [MUPPET] or [PINGPING] plates yet :p

You do not pay for storage, only reissue if the plates when you attach them to a vehicle.

Regarding the fees to remake plates, all can be found on the link below

I know it won't cost $500 to remake them, but I bet it doesn't cost them $200 to have them remade either. Just loving passing on the markup. JUst annoying as it will cost me as a result of vandalism.

No, you don't pay a YEARLY storage fee. It costs about $16 every time you want them back from DoT, no matter how long you store them for (that's what it was when I stored mine last).

Stupid question if I have normal WA issue plates (on a VZ Commodore) and I go to swap them over will the hole centres on the polycarbonate personal ones match or do I have to drill new holes ?

Also I spose I take my numberplates off before I walk in and hand them over the counter ?
Do they inspect the car at all ?

Just park up outside and take your plates in and they swap them over.

Nope no looking at the car, but if youre worried throw the plates on your dash and drive down the road somewhere and fit them
