What sort of damage can be done to the block of an engine by a thrown timing belt or a failed oil pump?
Sellers of the engines state that the engine is "u/s does not go" and "u/s bottom end damage" respectively.
Would it be feasible to use said block in a high hp build?
Cheers,
Chris

A snapped timing belt is a serious problem if the engine is an interference engine. Valves will smash pistons.
failed oil pump = bearings get shredded.

Thanks for the response Mister Two. Not all that concerned with the head, just the block itself.
I should add; with regards to the oil pump, I'm aware of seized engine damage, but is there any other mechanical damage to the block assuming it hasn't seized?

Generally no,
But if valves smash pistons, valve can come across and scratch bores. Depending on how far oversize your going, you might have trouble getting teh scratches out.
Id try and find a good runner to strip down if possible, makes life alot easier

if oil pump has gone you may need new crank so you will need to find a new spare donor engine anyway....
