I'm hoping I'm not on my own here, but I'm an unashamed fan of orchestral music, especially soundtracks.

John Williams is the master of this - Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, ET, etc.

But I just downloaded the Tron Legacy OST and am simply blown away.

Daft Punk have created a masterpiece. Outlands with its strings and brass is in a class of its own. Adagio for Tron is also a sad and dark but rich piece.

Tron Legacy OST is fantastic, Daft Punk did a great job.

As obscure as it is, I've always loved the song "Bolero" off the Moulon Rouge (sp?) soundtrack... I actually started building a fbf animation to it years ago, before deciding that I didn't want to release something that was a blatant copyright infringement. It's a great, dark piece of orchestral music...

I'll have to go through my playlists at home to jog my memory of others.

A shocking movie song, however, is the one they slipped into the Lion King re-release (late 90's I think?) where they overlaid some gay pop song when Simba is pretending to catch Zazu. If you're a dermented Walt Disney fan like me you'll know the song I'm talking about. It almost made me hurl the DVD into the fire because it was so appalling.

Definitely not alone - huge fan of orchestral music, I listen to it quite a lot when I'm studying. :)

Although not many people were fans of their work, "Bond" released some great songs. Their take on Agagio for Strings is fantastic. Plus, they're fucking hot.

William Orbit- Pieces in a Modern Style I quite enjoy on long drives.

Bolero is years old. The poor drummer.

ET and me is one my favourites with how the strings build up and disappear - it's very dreamlike, but then that's what the scene was all about.

One of them is a Perth girl too :)
I'm a fan of the classical/orchestral stuff too. Everyone has different tastes, it's such a broad area of music though. It's like someone saying "yeah I dig rock music." There's some utterly amazing stuff out there and there's an awful lot of crap too. Just gotta dig for it.

The Solaris OST by Cliff Martinez is insane too.

The tracks First Sleep and Fasten Your Seatbelt are so haunting it's not funny. Who would have thought steel drums could be so effective.

Dont have to be a fan of Anime to appreciate some of the OSTs that Joe Hisaishi puts into Ghibli films. All are stunning.

Jupiter is the only planet worth listening to IMHO.

I do love Swan Lake too. It was actually the basis of John Williams' Home Alone soundtrack which is also pretty good.

Yes Jupiter is my favourite.
If you like Swan Lake + Le Casse Noisette (The nutcracker), go watch Fantasia (original version)
I'm also liking the soundtrack for Gladiator.

Full Metal Alchemist OST.
Download it hey, awesome music. Although you should also sit down and watch through the whole FMA series if you do, great story and will give the music even more depth.

Have you guys listened to the Hunt for Red October OST? It's so powerful with the Russian choir. Brilliant stuff.

Also, Mona Lisa Overdrive from Matrix Reloaded is awesome.

I've listened to Fantasia, pretty good.

Gladiator's too synthesised for my liking. I'm not really a fan of Zimmerman.

John williams essential classical guitar has some fantastic compositions. 97.7 classic fm for the traffic commute wins every time.

Evelyn glenney is great as well. Deaf percussionist who learnt to play by the feel of vibrations. Saw her live years ago, astounding stuff.

If you like Choral stuff, then you cant go past Carmina Burana by Carl Orff. One of the best opera's ever written IMO

my pic of the songs is O Fortuna

The problem with O Fortuna is it's been done to death in about a million adverts and movies. Hell, they even did a dance remix of it - F.C.B Excalibur.

The movie was rubbish, but Duel of the Fates from Phantom Menace is brilliant, though.

I've really taken a liking to John Powell's style. Remeniscent of John Williams, but with a bit more originality.

A classic is the soundtrack to Horton Hears a Who. Don't laugh - the soundtrack is brilliant. Listen to "Kite Flying Day" immediately followed by "Mountain Chase".

For sure, some of the most original but comprehensive orchestrations you'll ever hear.

Been listening to that over the past month.
I concur with how good it is.
