Hey guys. In the process of planning an RB25DET conversion for my 4dr 32. Figured that while I'm doing it I might as well upgrade a number of things. Looking to get ~250+ hp atw. With the other supporting mods, what turbo do you think would be suitable? Either that or can anyone convince me to keep the RB20? Cheers

with the RB25 u wont need a turbo upgrade to make 250rwhp, just filter, full exhaust, front mount n boost will get u there.
i know of 270rwhp being made in a RB25 with a RB20 turbo on it, the above mods and a Power FC aswell.

wat a waste of money... just keep the rb20 and give me the money u were going to waste on the rb25 downgrade.
rb20 will easily make 250rwhp with just as many mods as a rb25
if you only want 250rwhp, definitely just stick with the 20
if you think you may want more power later and with more torque down low go the 25
But cerbera you get chopped by 25's all the time...
Standard turbs on a 25 can go 280-290hp easily.

I'm with Cerbera here guys, for the amount he'd spend on the conversion plus usual mods like cooler, exhaust etc he could make over 300 rwhp
RB20DET with Cooler, Full exhaust, GTR fuel pump and injectors, GT2540 and ROM should make in excess of 300rwhp easily.
Plus the GT spec ballbearing turbz roll up on boost very quickly and should make up for the extra torque of the 25
If you only want 250+ rwhp look at bolting a late model R33 turbz onto the Rb20 with all supporting mobs plus ECU upgrade of somesort and you should make around 250 @ 1bar
Speak to Lumpy at Hyperdrive. They have done heaps of this stuff

Yeah your right, just ask Cerbera about all his mods and his lack of 300rwhp! That Apexi snail is holding him back!
Depends how much power you want, if you only looking for 250-300, keep the 20 or like boo5t said, if u wanna make BIG power then go the RB25 but be prepared to pay BIG $$$ for it.

RB25 Power!

i dont really know how much power u really need....
i get excessive wheelspin in 3rd and sometimes 4th in the dry, ill take u for a drive on saturday if you want and if u tell me its worth spending a small fortune for a extra 30-40hp and the real possibility that your RB25 is going to blow its ringlands
i get excessive wheelspin in 3rd and sometimes 4th in the dry
hahahahahahaha re-phrase that simon, u get a LITTLE bit of wheelspin when you smash 3rd in the dry, and maybe a chirp into 4th if you rig the steering wheel...!!
when u can stand on it in 3rd bout 80kmh and it lights up (without using tyres that are 10 yrs old & hard as rock) then i'd say u got excessive wheelspin issues...

I'd have to comment and not having a go, that if you've got excessive wheelspin in 4th in the dry you'd have to have an enormous amount of power or some seriously awful tyres (or maybe space savers?).

298.99rwhp in a 32 is enough to cause excessive wheelspin in the dry into 4th ??

I really don't believe that the Rb25 will make that much more power with same mods as RB20, you will obviously experience more torque down low with a 25 but with turbo chargered car you'd be silly not to be driving on boost. If you check out www.skylinesaustralia.com you'll find a thread with guys making in excess of 260rwKW with an RB20. With the mods i've listed their are guys with dyno sheets for RB25's making between 230-255rwkw and rb20s making 215-230rwkw. Anything more than this and your gonna have to crack both motors open and start strengthening!

Haha, well now you've got me starting to reconsider, probably have a proper check of how much it'll all cost and make a decision. Oh..and Cerbera I might have to take you up on ur offer mate...

Speakin only from talking to someone else whos done the conversion, if you've got the time/cash its definatly worth it, the low down torque of the rb25 means you dont have to push the engine to get where you want! Also being a newer motor usually less kms will last longer, just dont run as much boost through it as you would an rb20.
Good points of an rb25 is put the same turbo on it as the rb20 and it will just run better (spool earlier, make more power etc). Personally i dun have the time or funds for it but if you did i would recommend it from ppl ive spoken to who have done it.

You can comfortably make reliable 350rwhp from a RB25, yet to see this from a RB20 here.

Yes, just make more than Cerbera and I will be happy! haha
While not exactly the same, my R31 had a RB25, while my 32 atm has a RB20 in it. I couldnt justify to you or myself for that matter why to go rb25. For say even the 3k cost of changing over, you could do some nice mods to the 20 and make good power.
Remember with the extra torque of a 25, you WILL kill 20 boxes, and often, so thats another 1500 - 2000 dollars to sort out. At least a 20 wont make enough torque down low to damage the box.

25 box would be a must if u did the conversion, so that bumps the price up another $2Kish.
Weight it up weather its worth it. all depends what u want out of the car at the end of the day i guess.

Decided to keep the rb20..for now anyway. Thinkin of running either a disco potato or gt2871r, prob the former as i figure i would end up with better driveability. With front mount, gtr injectors, pump, microtech etc. lookin to make close to 300 atw. Sound realistic??

Im going through the same process at the moment ,iv thought of sellin the really good runnin rb20 and buying a rb25,but i dont like the risk of getting a stuffed rb25 .Im like you ,just happy to get 250 horses, loads of fun and affordable.
My plan is: frontmount and plumming, : which i have allready
exaust, : which i have allready
Rb25 turbo , :im still waitn on
040 motorsport fuel pump, :will get soon
exaust with 3" dump, :have exaust ,need dump
hyperdrive lumpy chip and tune :will need
Iv been told these mods will get RB 20 to 250hp or a bit more.Affordable and less risk importing a frontcut rb25 especially if you rb20 is good like mine :)
Hope this helps for ya
